Motor Mount

Motor Mount

I want to change out my tranny mount and front radiator side mount. I have already replaced the passenger side mount by supporting the engine with my oil pan. My question is when changing the tranny mount where do I need to support the engine so that it won't move when removing the mount?

Just support the trans at the bell housing. I use a block of wood or other soft material to mate the jack and trans. You'll have the support of the passenger mount and crossmember for the other side. With the jack in that position, you'll have adjustment to help you remove the trans mount.

Edit: Just saw you're changing one of the lower radiator mounts also. Disconnect top brackets, lift radiator a couple inches on that side, remove old mount, clean, install new mount, place radiator back into position, and reinstall brackets.

Where do I need to support engine when removing the lower radiator mount?

dont use the oil pan as a support..search oil pan dents and see what dents in your oil pan can do to the engine

There should be no chance of denting the oil pan with this method since our engines use two oil pans. The lower is very shallow and steel and can support a lot of weight. Obviously, one would want to use a flat contact point to distribute the weight, but I think that's a given. There are several ways to ruin an engine through stupidity. If you follow the FSM closely and utilize common sense mechanics, you should do just fine.

Just as long as your lower pan isn't rusted all to hell. Just use a block of wood on top of your jack to distrubute the weight and you be fine.

I was able to remove the front radiator side mount by supporting the engine under the oil pan with no problems. I had to lift up the radiator to pull out the mount. To remove the transmission mount I just supported the engine at the engine trans joint. The transmission mount took the most time out of the 4 mounts because of the all the connections and screws that had to be removed to get to it and is tricky to pull out the mount.

I bought the mounts off of Ebay for the Front, Passenger Side and Trans. For the rear I used OEM because I didn't want to hassle having to replace it if the ebay mount went bad.

I don't have the link for it. I bought the mounts seperate because I wanted to stay with the auto front and rear mounts.
