Anyone know/have a metal aftermarket stereo kit?
I have a double din Pioneer in Vanna and i'm trying to see if theres another option besides the plastick one that i have right now...i'm hating seeing it shaking (pause) when the car is shaking (mainly due to bad axles which will be fixed). but i does shake under other circumstances, which arent fresh in my mind.
but i'm trying to see what other possibility is out there, if there are any aside from the plastic mounting one i have right now

I'm not 100% certain I get what you are looking for, you currently have a dash kit that is 100% made of plastic or you actually want the face of it to be metal as well?
I have the plastic faced kit that matches the stock dashboard and I have never seen the thing move or rattle once.

sorry for the confusion. i'm speaking of the brackets for the aftermarket stereo itself...the ones i have are plastic, but i'd like some metal ones like from the factory for the factory deck...you understand what i'm saying now? i also would like to believe thats the reason for my deck sitting so low causing my GXE dash to poke out

Yes you want a metal frame inside of the dash where it mounts, I am quite certain I am using the Metra kit which does not have the metal frame but it fits perfectly snug and flush in my dash without any movement or vibrations. Do you know which kit you have currently or maybe it's that the aftermarket H/U that you have is too deep causing it to be pushed out from the rest of the dash?

im 99% sure i have the metra kit...and its only so much tightening i can do before id crack the plastic mounting piece. maybe ill pull everything apart and try again, but its kinda aggravating ya know..ill take a pic of it before this week is out

When I was researching this late last year I did see that a few early headunit swaps used the stock brackets. That should work out for you. Worse comes to worse you could always modify the original brackets to fit your HU.

You could also try making your own I suppose out of those erector set looking metal strips that are sometimes included in the bracket kits, typically for bracing/securing the back of the HU to the dash.

I have the GXE dash kit with the plastic brackets, its okay :/ I agree they feel kind of flimsy and cheap, but i've never had it a problem shaking or being loose. I tightened down the screws pretty good, the plastic will turn white and flex before it would crack, which it didnt. Although im sure your double din pioneer weighs alot more than the single din and pocket that i have. When i first installed it i used the stock brackets and the h/u stuck out of the dash like 1.5 inches due to where the screw holes were.

yea the HU is heavy, which is a main reason why i'm suspecting that its shaking/weighed down a tad, which is causing my GXE dash to pop out, i'm not a fan of this look/shake at all. i guess ima have to hit up some stereo shops, because i checked ebay and they have what i have

I'm pretty sure 00-03 are close to the same. Do you have any junkyards around you? You should be able to pick up a backup set for pretty cheap.

My AVIC D-2 sat too high or too low using the stock mounts in all/two holes I ended up using the stock mount, with only one screw in each side, normally this would have been unacceptable for me, but it's actually perfectly secure.
I have the OEM Metal bracket. I thought all OEM brackets were metal? Have you tried a Metal OEM bracket or just the plastic one?
Mine has 'divets' that sink into the screw location (convex/concave respectively), if your HU accomodates these (Concave bevel in the screw locations) then I'd be opting for that set up, much more secure.

the brackets i have is the aftermarket one, plastic, for my double din...bolts up perfectly...but, its just....not to my taste in how its secured, moving around. not to mention has my GXE dash kicking out a little bit

I just installed a Kenwood double din unit, and ended up using the stock metal brackets. If you use the holes on the metal braket that are already there you head unit will stick out. All you have to do it measure where exactly you ned the head unit to be in relation to the heater piece and jsut drill new holes in the metal brackets! this doenst ruin the brackets, but allows you to mount the new aftermarket headuint securely! I'm using the GXE double din dah kit over this and it looks stock!

Yeah, i can easily get the pics for you since I'm right in the middle of the instal , and the center console is not fully put together yet! I'll post up some pics tonight of the new holes that were drilled.

Nope no bending...it did take a while to get the holes in the right spot though.
what i did was use the OEM holes that were available first, and used them to attach the radio. Then installed the bracket/radio back in to the car, and put the OEM bezel back over it. It was sticking out a good 3/4 of an inch. So then i knew i could move the new holes i was going to drill back 3/4 of an inch. Just make sure you keep them on the same plane as the original or else your radio wont be tilted correctly.
There is no shaking with this since its screwed to the metal brackets which are OEM, and those screw into the car
