well a few reasons...i am a college student and have no need for such a big car...i am somewhat tired of putting so much money into a car and seeing very little result because of the weight and transmission...on the subject of transmissions, i hate automatics...when i first got this car, i wanted side airbags to be safe but the combination of a stick w/ side airbags was very rare and i was in dire need of a car at the time so i settled on the auto...i've had the car for 2 years and feel that i have done most of what i can to the car next to boost...i also live in arizona and go to college in ohio...i am driving A car back to ohio in january (i'm in az now over winter break and i was going to drive this car down there and wait until the summer to sell it, but i realized that by summer this car will have 10k more miles on it most likely and will go down in value even more than it has and in order to afford any sort of decent car, now is the best time to sell the max

so basically i'd much rather have a stick, i have no need for such a big car, and i don't want the cars value to go down even more since i was planning on selling it anyways

but thanks for the complement

Hey man,
Don't take my following thoughts the wrong way at all...I'm not trying be a smartass. Just trying to offer some advice from someone who's been there before.

1- If you're going to college in OH, and live in AZ, you will DEFINITELY need a large car to haul stuff back and forth, and the Max fits the bill. You ain't gonna put a dormroom full of stuff in a small car, no matter how cool-looking it is. I know I loved having my '85 Monte Carlo SS every spring when it was time to move stuff back home from college.

2- Sure, you added an intake and a custom exhaust to your Max, but you also added a few hundred extra pounds of stereo equipment and ground effects. Extra weight kills performance. Most of the $$$ you spent on mods went to "looks cool" mods, rather than "go fast" mods. I bet if you sold that stuff off, and kept the true performance mods, your car would feel a helluva lot faster, automagic or not.

My advice would be to sell off most of the mods (keep the performance stuff and the rims), and keep your car. Trust me, the first time you drive a long distance in a large car you'll be glad you did. Running hundreds of miles of interstate highways next to 18-wheelers and buses is no fun in a lunchbox on wheels (ie. Civic, Golf, Integra, etc.). I drove from NJ to Ohio this summer in my Monte, and was thankful more than once that I was in a big comfy car. Truckers will actually see you coming...this is a good thing at 80 mph.

Good luck either way, and don't take my post the wrong way.

SSeeya,
Steve Ragusa - www.bowtiepower.com

i'm not taking it the wrong way or anything...don't worry

here is my response

the only things that i am taking home are my clothes which all fit into a suitcase...i am storing my fridge/tv/vcr at my friends house in cleveland so all i'm bringing home will be the car and a suitcase full of stuff and my laptop

i have taken road trips in small cars and they are more fun in my opinion...its not so much smaller than the max as far as visibility goes

and when i say my mods didn't add much...i'm talking about at the track...i ran stock at a 15.6 w/ no spare tire or anything then i went after all my mods w/ my stereo out w/ my spare tire out and i could only run constant 15.5's...it was quite a bit warmer when i ran the 15.5's but w/ my y pipe, full catback, new tires, cai i should be running in 14s...

and last but not least, every day i notice new sqeaks and rattles and i feel as though i have finished with this car...it was a fun 2 years, but i can't see myself doing anything else to the car

Ah, one of the reasons why i got rid of my maxima.

1. too big for me
2. you can only go so fast before boost or nitrous is needed. (what's the fastest NA 5g Maxima? 14.20s?)

I'm sorry that you got to get rid of it after spending so much money. You're gonna miss the torque unless you get a boosted or V8 vehicle. Keep us updated on what kind of cars you're looking at...

For long road trips, a Supra or 300zxTT is the way to go. Comfortable seats, excellent highway power, and 2 doors....

almost defenitely an acura rsx type s...for the amount of money i have, nothing can beat it as far as build quality, aftermarket support...and the interior kicks ***....i tested out a bunch of cars in my price range and even some not in my price range and that was by far my favorite...i just wanted to move to a smaller car in a stick shift

are those rattles and squeeks that bad in your car? How many miles on it? Why change for rice?

because this "rice" as you call it is a much more solid car than the max...the rattles and squeaks are seriously getting to me...i have 25k miles on the car

now, let me explain something to you

you are just like some people i know...don't take this the wrong way, but your last comment really ****ed me off...not because you think that an acura is rice, but because you obviously have no idea what "rice" is...how the hell can a stock car be rice? if anything would be considered rice, it would be my max...although i like it a lot, i just hate it when people are like "rice" at anything they see...i had a great 2 years with the nissan but i am done with it...i am not going to put boost on it and i can't stand driving an auto...i have no use for such a big car...now, back to my original rant...rice is made by the customer, not the company...some people are like "sentra se-r, thats rice...look at the se-r badge on the back"...what ignorance...seriously...i have no beef with you, but your last comment really ****ed me off

and even if something is "rice"...who cares, why do you need to label something like that? i mean that person obviously did what they wanted to do and they obviously like what they did...we are all in this car customizing game together...not everyone can afford to drop a new engine in their civic so some people just put an exhaust on...i wish i could afford an aston martin db7 vantage but i make do with what i have and put my time and money into my car as many other people do...when i see something that you would call "rice," i would say "damn, i think thats pretty ugly...what do you think" to my friends...

and by the way, this car will be the opposite of rice

first mods on the car will be hid's (real hid's) and a short throw shifter...then comes an injun short ram intake and a catback exhaust...then ground control coilovers, a dc sports rear tie, fstb, new rims/tires...then a downpipe, headers, and finally a chip and turbo then tuning

other than rims and a small quiet exhaust, it will be stock on the outside...btw, they will be lightweight 18s...haven't decided what yet though

not to heat things up here, the RICE stands for a 4-banger. BTW you have the one of the most cool 5 gens here on the site. (It that a sunlit sand or a silver color, cant see on the photo?)
Loosing so much on your mods and the car, weren't you be better off buying an M3 in the 1st place?

no it doesn't you n00b.

Rice defines any car that is over-done, tacky, and doesn't perform to the mods. Rice defines pointless mods (neons, taillamp changes, headlamp changes, Rear spoilers on FWD cars, etc). PLUS, (now this is important), the attitude of the driver plays a role.

A LS1 Fbody with neons, altezza taillamps and a big GTR wing is ricey.

A RSX with a big tasteless spoiler, 19s, and painted interior is ricey (or a show car)

MrBurner, why a RSX? You know they are a torqueless wonder? Why not a SE-R Spec-V? Even a Celica GT-S (still pretty torqueless, but are better looking). I just hate all 1996+ hondas. Especially the RSX with it's Paseo styling. Either way, good luck on your new car.

and FYI, if you replace the header, you will not need to get a new downpipe. The downpipe on a two piece header is just the bottom portion that bolts to the cat... if you're getting a header than this piece is already replaced.

yes, i realize it is a torqueless car but...the se-r spec v (no offense to anyone who owns one) sucks in my opinion...i test drove one..the stereo is decent but unlike what most people say, the seats are uncomftorble...i am 6'4'' and i have no front seat leg room...it handles very well but is not what i would call a "quick" car...it has an ugly interior and i am not a big fan of the exterior either...just overall, the entire package was not in the least bit appealing to me...and the redline comes up very quickly

i also test drove the celica gt-s...that car was nothing special to me...that and the rsx type s are both known to be equal in speed and it completely depends on the driver on a race between those cars...the interior is just so-so and the price seems high for what you get...the shifter/transmission also don't feel so great and it has a huge blind spot

the acura however i really liked during my first test drive...the exterior isn't anything amazing but i really like the interior a lot....it is very well built and has the honda/acura reputation and they don't give you nearly as much $hit about warranties being void etc. as nissan does...i took a second test drive at night and once i saw all the interior lights turn red, it just looked incredible...i can't describe it but for my $23k price range, that was the car for me...the celica i drove btw had the action package and they wanted $28k for it...i just really like the shifter/tranny on the acura...i know i will be going down to a 4cyl and obviously it is going to take some work to make that car exactly how i like it, but because it is an acura, it has a huge aftermarket and i have a big parts selection...the suspension i will admit is not the best, but integra/rsx suspension is so easy to make a lot lot better...i plan on some skunk2 coilovers, a dc sports lower tie bar, rsb, and fstb

thanks for the info on the headers/downpipe

so can you really have the tie bar and the rsb both on the car?

The CDA 5755 is a CD head unit correct? I really would only like to buy the CVA 1005. I am going to install it on my weekend car, a Mercedes Benz 300E. It already has a CHA 1214 in it. If you could, please give me your price for the CVA 1005 and the cost of shipping, thanks.

the cda5755 is a single disc in dash cd player and a digital equalizer...i really would rather sell both as a package but for the cva alone i'd have to say like 800ish

Exhaust

Custom exhaust? What, like y-pipe, random tech cat and cat-back exhaust? How much do you want for it?

Any chance of you making it up to Ohio WITH the parts? I live in Columbus and go to Cleveland often.

i have the stereo here in my rsx-s...other than that, all the parts are back up in az

its a custom cattman catback exhaust...only one like it made...cattman finally measured on someone elses car and made a completely different exhaust system but the one i have was supposed to be mass produced but was never measured by the mechanics that installed it at maxrev...(talk about a run-on but i'm too lazy to fix my poor grammar)...it is all 304 stainless steel 2.5" mandrel bent piping w/ a 24" resonator and a custom packed muffler...it sounds great...people will come upto me and ask where i got it

maxrev (the shop that does all of cattmans welding etc.) made the exhaust...they normally make headers/exhaust systems for ferrari's, airplanes etc...they also made the custom turbo kit on saad's 1050hp street legal supra (dyno's in the 860s usually)...they are known as one of if not the most reputable shop in arizona...they said that is the best exhaust they have ever made as far as sound and quality...i know it sounds like i am just trying to sell you on it which i am obviously, but i am also being very truthful about everything they said and what they do

everyone please email me if you are interested in parts...thanks

Sorry to see your Maxima go, as it has always appeared to be different and a standout (unique). Hopefully you can still approach this in the Acura as they are currently everywhere in my area (Florida). One of the biggest depreciation hits is a manual transmission on a used car. That being said, I think you made the right choice in the S-type as it will allow you to keep the 4cyl in its sweet spot. The auto-box in the Maxima almost assuredly brought you more $$$ than a manual in same car when traded. Good luck....and I will follow soon as I replace the wifes car with a TL S-type, but I will still keep the Maxima!
