Time for a new tranny!!!

After trying to get Nissan to switch the TCM out after doing the solenoid for the "slipping tranny issue" we find metal shavings in the tranny. I am at 45k miles now and the slip was getting worse, now the tranny needs to be replaced. I hope all is covered under warranty. I am sick of this $h!t, a $29,000 car and nothing but trouble. I just got done paying cash for a new mass air flow sensor.

I was thinking of trading my POS Taurus in for a new Altima but I am having second thoughts about Nissan.

I know many who have lost there trannys in the Max. I was one as well. The Max has a weak auto for the 5th gen due to the programming of how it shifts. Slipping belts burn them up (softer shifts). I drove a Altima nad it felt the same and its tranny I am sure will go eventually as well. The Max didn't feel as bad. 2k2 wise.

But I have to agree....5 nissans, my last one for a while. I got a 5spd because they will last a very long time.

How do you guys feel about the 5-speed Altima? I wanted to add the Altima in 5-speed form to my stable. Do you feel the Altima has a solid manual tranny? Do you feel the Altima will be a good car?

Mark

PS please convince me, I was planning to buy an Altima 3.5 5-speed.

Nissan does have quality issues (so does every other car manufacturer) and the Altima's interior uses material that looks and feels cheap. With the cost of the 3.5 Altima, you might as well buy a 6 speed Maxima. I don't know if it is just So Cal, but the dealers are really asking for some crazy prices for the Altimas.

Not just So Cal. I looked at 3.5 Altima before I settled on the 2k1 Max. Dealer wouldn't budge off their $28k asking price for the Altima. Nice car. Tons of torque steer.

I have yet to lose my tranny at 44,000 miles on a 2000 auto. However, a month ago after changing the oil the car would barely catch gear. I pulled the stick and there wasn't any fluid on it. We drained only about 1 1/2 quarts and then filled it with 4 1/2 quarts (about that anyway). The car had only gone 12,000 since I the 30,000 mile service so it was quite a surprise that it was almost dry for tranny fluid. I haven't taken it for inspection of the tranny, is that the best option or do you think it's okay?

I had no problem at all with my 99SE. For tranny problem stories go to www.acura-tl.com or www.acura-cl.com
