Tried to race a 2002 Camry SE tonight

There I was driving home on I-75 Saturday night, when a gold Camry comes in weaving in and out of traffic. I proceed to get up close to it to see what that thing is. There was a lot of traffic so I gad a fun time catching up to it. I caught up with him and I honked and flashed my lights, signaling that I wanted to play. He didn't bother to honk back or do anything. He proceeded to exit the freeway and I followed him. On the service road I gassed it and so did he and I easily pulled away twice. Anyway, he made wound up behind me and made a turn. I then followed him and he got on the phone. He stops on the side of the road and a white old 325i pulls up behind me and I he finally stops. He gets out of the car and asks, why are you following me? I asked him him, Just wanted to find out if you wanted to run that thing and see what it's got. He said no, and I took off. Seems like those girls want to claim Queen of the road until a real car comes along. Anyway, I know it's a long thread but I just wanted to hear the opinion of my Max brothers.

The new Camry is a very nice 'family' car. as a 'family' car, it has almost no flaws. it's a perfect car to haul your 'family' around town.
but it's no Maxima. the only thing Toyota forgot to update under this new flashy sheetmetal is the engine. it's still a carry over from previous generation which did a 0-60 in around 8.4-8.7 sec. and 1/4 in like low 16s.(in the previous models with automatic tranny)
which means, that the new car should be able to post about the same numbers and Maximas once again sweeps the contests. i just hope no Camrymen people read this.

I beat one with my 4th gen from a stoplight, by 120km/h I had more than enough room to merge into his lane

Toyota is stupid making the same engine again in 2002, a lot of companies made their engines better and toyota with their camry stayed behind

Toyota wanted to keep its nice family image, they know no family would want to go 0-60 in 6 secs enroute to soccer practice, they wanted a car that would creat 10 db at WOT, the camry is one smooth mug, thats why this year the Lexus ES300 is EXACTLY the camry, just rebadged with amenities. For the family men who strive for performance with a moderate price tag, the MAXIMA is the way to go.

The opinion of this Maxima brother is that you probably looked like a freak stalker to this guy. Hell, I probably would have gotten out of that car expecting a confrontation from an ex-girlfriend's husband or something. You followeed the guy all over the place...he probably thought you were a freak.

You shouldn't have followed him. These people with their cell-phones call 911 everytime they get harassed on the road. I know this from experience...

It's quite simple actually, a Camry vs. Max. is like putting a Geo Metro against a 911 TT! Well not to the same extent, but you guys get the picture!

Thanks for the comments guys. Kinda thought of that myself when I got home. I guess if he wanted to race he would have responded on the freeway. Thanx, again.
