I think the manual calls for around 8 hours of labor to do the secondary timing chain TSB. Can someone else confirm?

For my complete swap, along with swapping over the IM, oil pans, fuel rails, and a few other odds & ends, my mechanic only charged me for 15 hours of labor....

 

15 hours isn't bad, that plus the price of the engine and parts is still less than a year's worth of car payments.

 

The engine (under 50k miles) and the parts for the timing chain TSB plus labor got me in for under $1375 all together. I thought it was incredibly cheap...BTW, this guy does meticulous work.

 

I was thinking more about space between the engine and subframe. There is only 4 or so inches so Im sure this will not be fun.

 

Got my car bac this WE, drover her about 200 miles, and thus far....WOW. I forgot how much fun this car was when she was new(er). Engine is more responsive, pulls hard, no lag between hitting the pedal and acceleration, I could go on and on. That being said, just opening the hood, it looks almost identicle (as well it should). The only thing is that the motor mounts look to be positioned ever so slightly different. Thanks to those who helped me figure out what was needed to get this project done!

I hate to do this, but as a member of the community if you'd be willing to gather all of the information related to this engine job into one post I'd be willing to bet that you'd be helping likely tens if not hundreds of members.

At 97k, I burn a quart every 400 miles so I'm very seriously considering this project. I'd personally also appreciate if you could PM me the name of your mechanic, as even though I'm in NJ, I'd drive 700 miles for a mechanic I can trust($1400 for good work is very affordable). If anyone else would like to throw out the names of the mechanics whom performed their engine job nothing goes unwelcome. Within 300 miles of NNJ would be favorable.

I wouldn't mind doing this to help out others, but I don't know that I would honestly be a lot of help. What we could do is start a new thread, and just edit the initial post to keep it up to date. Thoughts on doing it this way?
