5 or 6 speed Shift *****

So over the years my stock shift **** is starting to get worn and was going to grab an oem one from nissan for 50 bucks or so but was curios to get other opinions on any other ones such as 350/70z or g 35/37 or aftermarket ones that look good on our cars.Pics or links if you got any, thanks.

If you want one that falls right to your hand and has a great feel, this one:

http://www.jegs.com/p/Hurst/Hurst-Sh...45795/10002/-1

Yeah, it isn't particularly pretty and doesn't say "Nissan" on it but you can angle it so it fits your hand perfectly. Had one on my Z/28 Hurst shifter and my B&M Star Shifter (automatic) and loved how they feel. Just not sure how they would look in a Maxima's more upscale interior.

I've always loved the hurst shifter myself, I had one in my toyota tercel. But I wonder also how it would look in our cars. I know they used to make a black suede one. Do they make one in leather? LOL

Scott, you can get a Hurst T-Handle **** for the Maxima? Seriously? Which one? Oh man, I miss my old T-handle. That would be something to wrap my hands around again.

They have one with universal threading, here is the link. Not sure if there is one with Maxima specific threading.

According to this link http://www.amazon.com/Nissan-Altima-.../dp/B004NJA1B2 the threading for our shifters is 10x1.5mm which is one of the options for the Hurst t-handle. Might stop by Pep Boys and see if they have any in stock.

It will definitely lower the shifter height.

This link says 10x1.25 though... http://www.gennieknobs.com/threadsize.php

They have the proper thread insert here: http://www.gennieknobs.com/insertkit.php

Scott, I am eager to hear what you find out.

Part of me say's it's a weird thing putting a Hurst T-Handle on a cable linkage set-up in a FWD import. But a bigger part of me has hugely fond memories of my old Competition Shifter from 25 years ago.

Good luck, man.

I'm a fan of the OEM one. I bought a replacement as soon as I got my car in 06 and it still looks great.

Not that it carries anything else over, but a random fact: Very similar to the R34 OEM shift ****:

I hear you, zero. Replaced my original **** last Fall with OEM. Love it.

But still... T-handle... for $25, it would be fun to play with for a little while.

Exactly. First thing I did when I got my Z/28 which already had a Hurst shifter but had that huge cue ball shifter ****. Love the way it fits my hand.

I still have that white Hurst cue-ball somewhere! Probably in a box in the attic. Same here, Scott... had to have the brushed-aluminum t-handle with the Competition Shifter on my Trans/Am.

@Rochester: I'll give you $60 + shipping for your new **** and you can use that to buy one of those... ergonomic.. shifters. (Must be an old guy, muscle-car thing.)

As for me, I'd go the "racing" route and buy a shifter that commands authority AND rests, um, higher than the steering wheel, AND is "ergonomic" ANNNNNNNND only $26! I'll be the first guy to have a three-foot-long shifter in his Maxima.

(Note the bend in the handle. That's apparently "ergonomic," which is code for "hard to find gears on mah Detroit")

Edit: *****! That's just for the boot.

I'm not saying I would keep the Hurst on forever, I just want to play for a while. For the cost of a decent lunch, it could be fun. Well... lunch with a couple of drinks.

What the hell,I thought you couldn't shorten the shifter on a 5.5 and thats the cleanest looking center console on a max ive ever seen.Is that brushed aluminum a kit ?

That was a noob observation on my part lol, but in my defense at a glance they look pretty close besides lack of heater controls.

Thanks for the chuckle, nice shot on trying the 'in my defense' ^

That looks NOTHING like the Maxima interior, except the shift ****. EVERYTHING else is different.

So have you geezers installed your T handles yet?

Between 8:00 pm last night, and 11:00 am today? Um, no. (WTF?)

Besides, it's not like I'm going to leave the house during a Mattlock Marathon on the Lifetime Channel! Where's your head at, kid?

As young as I am, I honestly used to watch matlock with my father years ago and i've actually grown to like the show. When I catch it on TV, i'm glued.

How foolish of me! I forgot that was running, my Grandma reminded me of that last week too, what a terrible memory I have.

I should give you her number you two can discuss the on-going drama during the spectacle.

I was driving around this afternoon, and thinking about this t-handle grip idea.

The god's honest truth is that the idea seems goofy. I'd still like to play, but... well, it seems goofy is all.

I'm sure it would feel good. The thing is, what feels good and what looks good in this world are seldom the same thing.

This is especially true of most women, and I don't consider cars much different

I have seen 'retro' style shifters that were finished in an upscale wrap, leather, whatever. It's been done, and can work in some applications, but a T handle in the Maxima is not somewhere I'd go.

If someone does it, I demand pictures, and a new thread for it.

The twin loop thread might have some competition

T-handle grip on an AT shifter is a pretty big fail.

That's got to be an enhanced image file.

You know what? That's a white, 2001 Anniversary Edition Maxima. (Steering wheel, pedals, etc.)

That's Tuner's car, with a T-handle shopped on his AT shifter.

Personally I just chose too replace my **** with an OEM replacement. It still looks sweet.

But, I've driven a few cars with a Hurst T-handle and I love how it feels.
That must make me part of some crossover generation.

Ah I knew I should have taken more time and done a proper job of that, well played gentlemen.

ORG> Me

I guess someone with a real transmission will have to do it and post pics
