crossmember delete?

has anyone here permanently removed the crossmember, and welded custom lower motor mounts(torque mounts) to the subframe?

I would imagine that some of you who are run'n a turbo would have done this to gain more room for your piping...

any pix?

I can not remember ever reading any threads where one has deleted the crossmember that holds the two torque mounts

You would have to cantilever the supports for the mounts which would require greater strength. I really don't think it would be feasible without beefing up the radiator support a bit. Would it be worth the time cost? Advantages>disadvantages???

I personally find this to be an AWESOME idea, even if your VQ is not sport'n a turbo! it could be a significant weight reduction and allows you more room for exhaust fabrication, engine and transmission maintenance

How so? The crossmember is light without the mounts. I don't think you could save any way by the time you're done fabbing new supports.

This would be a good idea if you fabricated your own stuff, it would be way too expensive for such an insignificant benefit. Even with a turbo you don't need to get rid of the crossmember, I still have mine.

Less piping. It's actually a nice setup.
