Mx items as preventative when removing UIM

I'm doing my front and rear valve covers and figure I should just knock out anything else as a preventative measure while I'm digging. What am I missing or can add? 2000 3.0 fed spec. 145k with no known issues beyond leak (started a couple weeks ago)

1. Front valve cover gasket and all 3 tube seals
2. Rear valve cover gasket and all 3 tube seals
3. New EGR gasket
4. *clean* EGR tube
5. 6 new plugs (50k on current ones, put in updated coils at 100k)
6. New coolant lines (small ones at both sides of intake)?
7. Clean TB

Anything else you guys can think of? I've read in the 4th gen forums about knock sensors but haven't read much on them being troublesome in the 5th gen forum.


I'll prob do an oil change, tranny drain/fill (do it every 30k), drain/fill PS, and clean the K&N. This is my airport car so when I work on it I need to do everything at once and need it to be reliable when coming/going between trips. I'm not concerned about the money as much as "doing it right".

my car has 208k and i didnt replace my coolant lines, but i guess it doesnt hurt...also didnt replace any other gaskets besides teh VCs. you can do those things if you feel like it though...BTW i didnt get to clean my TB, i was in too much of a rush to get it back together, kinda upset i didnt..but ima just spray some TB cleaner in it and call it a day

You can clean your IACV that is right under the TB. If your going to remove the spark plugs seals, make sure to get a tool to remove them, they are stuck on there good. I ended leaving the old ones in, because I wasn't leaking any oil in the spark plug tubes and they are on good enough to where I doubt they ever will.

A tool? Actually they are pretty easy to remove. I used a screwdriver and just pried them up working around the entire seal. Just be careful not to scractch the sides of the wells.

I would also suggest a new throttle body gaskest, intake manifold gasket, and IACV valve gasket.

You may consider replacing the fuel injector o-rings as well just in case. Make sure when you replace the o-rings you use mineral or dino oil only to lubricate the o-rings. Silicone as a lubricant can react with the fuel and cause clogging.

They aren't easy to remove, well at least mine were stuck on there pretty good. There is a seal puller that you can ren't or buy ($7) that will make it easier to pull them out. If you scratch the sides of the wells you could end up causing a leak or end up getting metal shavings in your engine.

mine were as well. but i did use a screwdriver...AND a hammer and knocked them out
