Gen 5.5 Help Needed!
I have a 2k2 6spd Maxima. Recently the engine was replaced as the original had developed a knock and had a nasty oil leak. (I was told by two mechanics it was comng from the back part of the timing cover). Car also had several SES codes, p0300, p0340. Anyways, while engine was out, clutch, pressure plate, and throw out bearing was replaced. The spark plugs, and all coils were replaced.
Well, new motor in the car and drives great, until recently. Oil leak showed up, and seems to be coming from the front of the engine behind the timing cover. (not same engine as I took old one back for core). Still got p0300 every once in a while. Friday, my wife was merging onto the highway and the car died. I traded her cars and it happend to me about 500ft from were it died on her. Car was in limp mode, wouldnt rev past 3k. Checked the codes and found p0300 and p0340.
Bought a new cam position sensor for bank 1, and reset ecu. Car is the same. No power and runs extremely rough. It died while on a test drive. I pushed the car back to my house. Now the car lays dead in front of my house. It wont even start. IT turns slowly like the battery is dead. Battery load tested and is good.
I need help! This car has been nothing but a chronic headache!

checked and cleaned all grounds. car barely starts and idles rough. cannot rev it, or it dies. replaced crank sensor, and car didnt even start. put old one back in, started, but idles crappy.
on a side note, found my oil leak. under cam cover, abover the alternaotr. was thinking since the alt. is covered in oil, it could be bad and causing problems? is that a possible scenario?

got the alternator out and tested. its good. got car back together and tried to start. turned over, no start though. I had replaced the crank sensor, but code kicked it back out. put old one back in and she started, but ran rough. when u rev it up, it dies. exhaust smeels bad too. any other ideas?

The P0430 is the Bank 2 (or just behind the rad) Pre-Cat which may be clogged or the O2 sensors are bad on that bank, that may explain some of the rough bad idle and dieing when you rev up ... could also be a bad MAF sensor which may be why the car went into limp mode ... just a couple of idea's that may be effecting the current car performance
On a side note, have you allowed the oil level to get low (I assume this was possible) given you said you even had an oil leak on the new engine, if the oil level did get low you may have pushed some of the sludge/crap from deep in the oil pan up into the engine and you may have clogged the passage way in the "variable timing solenoid" this could be why you are getting the "P0300 multi misfire code". If you feel this is a possibility it will take several oil frequent oil changes and perhaps a couple of engine flushes to help clear the passage way on the "Variable Timing Solenoid"

nothing to update... car just turns over. thats all. not even tries to start. Replaced both cam sensors, plugs and coil. unlplug the maf sensor, codes comes up, same as crank sensor- so doh think its those.
can anyone give some advice? i cannot afford to take it to a mechanic to stare at if for 60-90 an hour. help!
