You're walking to your car after work. Cars are parked in diagonal spots, and this woman is doing something on the passenger side of the car to the left of yours. She opens her door, smashing her passenger door into your front fender that the noise can be heard the ~30 feet or so away. She notices she did this, looking at it for a moment, and does it again.
You reach for your smartphone, start the video recorder. She gets into her car, pulls out quickly, until she notices the phone in your hand. She stops to confront you.
What do you do?
(yes, she's older, and rather hideous looking)
ETA: I went with "get insurance info", but stopped the recording to get pictures of the damage with her car in the same photo. Then started audio, although I have not listened to that, perhaps it even caught her admission of doing it. During the conversation, she was like "look at my car, everyone does it to my car too!" I told her the difference is that she got caught. They didn't. I had her info already, so I let her have her tantrum - it would put two-year-olds to shame.

^^^ I got over a grand for small scratches on the rear quarter, so running up the bill really isn't an issue.
Always call the cops, if for no other reason than that they will remember being there and can be forced to help if the other person claims that it never happened.

In all honesty, I come from a place where cops won't come for something like that. Only injuries. On the other hand, here in northern Virginia people block lanes of traffic for fender benders for an hour or more waiting for the cops to show up, hoping they'll do their csi **** or something.
the option i would have chosen is not there i would pull out my kets and dent her car right back!
honestly i would take pictures, get her insurance, name, all that crap, then call the cops if nothing happens and your whip doesnt get fixed i find her house in the middle of the night and bash HUGE dents in her car

I dissagree
I rearended a lady a few years back with no visual damage.... therefor no police report. Then a few months later I renew my insurance and they paid out $780 in repairs on her car, I wasnt even notified that they were paying her. I guess it depends on the insurance company.
i would beat the hoe with a stick afterwards plant the weapon on her then call the cops and say she went psycho and did that to herself i got video.. if they ask why didnt you recorded when she beating herself, say your phone died.
LOL we work hard to keep a cars clean, mechanically sound, audio crystal clear and the body free of dents when you get random people ucking up your car out of spite.you'd wanna smack fire outta someone too
2. The woman wasn't doing it out of spite, but rather ignorance.
3. Being upset about a situation and dealing with it like an adult is a far cry from being an internet thug and advocating senseless, psychopathic thoughts on a public forum.
Why so serious???
hugs<>money and I said it was "a car" not, in your words, "just a car". Reading comprehension FAIL.
1. I, myself, am an automotive enthusiast and would be angry if someone was this selfish.

This subject is being taken way to seriously... There are many types of people in this world. One that is a bit more common than others is the kind that can get on here and "say" what they "would" do... Truth be told, they couldnt actually bring themselves to beat down an old woman. At least over a car beloved or not. Now back on Topic::::: the policy probably would not show up. I have found that in parking lots, the police consider it private property at which time it becomes between you and the other party. So in reality what you did was probably the correct method. (Too bad you didnt record her temper tantrum... coulda made a great youtube video)

As far as violence goes, I feel for ya, I can recite every major scratch and ding on the vehicle from memory. Let that person be miserable in their own skin.

I've gotten into it with people over this before.
Actually got some guy to pony up $50 for buffing/waxing the door he hit after I threatened to call the cops and file an insurance claim.
People just don't give a damn. Personally, I try my hardest to make sure I don't bang my door into other peoples' cars when I get out of mine, which can be tough in the G...(See: Doors that are one mile long). But to some (most) people, a car is just an object of transportation that you dump off in a few years for a newer model.
I'd do as others have suggested, and file an insurance claim. Let the adjuster look at it, and then at her car. If you have an audio confession, that should be nearly as good as a police report.

One thing I have learned that has helped reduce the dings in my car is 2 options... The nice car theory,, Park next to other nice vehicles. People with nice vehicals typically have more respect for other nice cars and will be more carefull. Or just park in the back of the lot... granted never fails.. Some dip S*** will still park next to you no matter hwere you park
Like...really?
Come on, now. I'm out away from everyone else for a reason.
It still lessens the chances. Plus, being away, or uphill, from the carriage corrals is another habit I've gotten into. Though very few people put the carts back where they're suppose to be anyway. What are you gonna do?
