# of quarts for oil change

I'm gonna have the dealership put in some Mobil 1 for my next oil change. Do you know how many quarts of oil I need to bring with me?

Thanks.

it takes 4.5 ... but you can't buy 4.5 and i usually use .5 for a quick flush..

I thought it was 4.25 quarts. You will still need to buy 5 quarts of Mobil 1 though.

Manual say 4.25 qt for 2K, anything else will bring it into the overfill mark. Dunno how bad that is though, if its overfill region.

The overfill oil will be burn in the engine, I dont think it can cause any damage at all, I've experienced it in the past and nothing happend exepts the blue smoke.

Cheers

Overfilling the oil level is a sure fire way of damaging the engine internals. When the oil level is too high, the crank shaft counter weights come in contact with the oil in the oil pan during rotation. This causes the oil to become aerated and foam up, much like the way you would make whip cream by hand by beating cream with a wire whisk. Once the oil has all this air and foam in it, it loses its lubricating properties and its ability to protect the engine internals. Thus you end up with accelerated engine wear(if you are lucky)or you could seize the engine.

Owners' manual for 2k2 says 4.25qts. K Pazzo, putting in too little oil is far better than too much. I doubt very seriously you have done any damage.
