HLSD delivery date?

Has anybody got a firm date yet on delivery of a 2k2 SE ordered out with HLSD? I placed my order November 23, was told to expect it "by February 28"...

Dealer told me "January". I'm going to call in a few days and see if I can get an update.

what is HLSD? (new here)

I've been reading here for a few weeks, but haven't read about what HLSD is... thanks.

I'll be ordering my 2k2 Maxima in March... any suggestions? I know from reading that Nav makes it go faster (haha) but anything else?

Seriously, I was in the market for a $40k Volvo and the wife will be ectactic that I'm saving almost $10k... I can pretty much have my way with the car. I want everything (but Nav, sorry speed freaks)... what else should I put in for (with Nissan and the wife).

HLSD is a Helical Limited Slip Differntial. Most FWD cars have a "open" differntial. Meaning if you floor it only one wheel spins, not the best for traction etc. In the early 90's Nissan started putting a VSLD, viscous limited slip differential in their Maxima SE's, both auto and 5sp. This is a fluid based system. If the wheel begins to spin to fast(like a burnout or on rain/ice) the liquid solidfies somewhat and is able to transfer some power to the other wheel...like 25-30%. I'm not really sure how the HLSD works, but I know its a "better" or more advanced differntial. As far as I know its only available on the 2k2 6sp models.

History:
92-94 se's: all had VSLD
95-01 American Max's, none had VSLD
95-01 Canadian 5sp se's, had vsld, not sure if the auto had it.
2k2 auto, open differntial.
2k2 6sp, HSLD is an OPTION.

Oh..its also said to reduce torque steer, thats the moving of the wheel when accererating hard with a powerful FWD car. If the power is more evenly split between both, the the whell will remain straigt.

With all this talk about NLSD...

Everyones pretty big on this HLSD with the 2k2's...What about that Quaife LSD system Cattman is offering for the 00's & 01's? Has anyone considered getting it or does anyone have it already? I guess if you do the math...getting this part from cattman w/the install would cost around the same thing as adding that option to a 2k2. What info do you guys have on the cattman one? From what I read on the site and knowing what we do about the HLSD, it sounds like a worthwhile mod...

I ordered on November 7, and I was told "January 15th" give or take 2 weeks.

Helical is the name that Nissan is using because it describes the gearing configuration but it is the Quaife system and I doubt you could buy it aftermarket for anything close to what Nissam wants as an option which is only $399.
I've read a paper on it and it was said to be electronically controlled, not mechanically. It continuously senses the load to each wheel and constantly makes adjustments so you should never see just one wheel slip. I hope the author of this paper knew what he was talking about because this differential sounds just like what the Max has always needed to get a good launch.

Not entirely correct...

Anniversary Editions had a VLSD in the U.S.

I called today to see where in the hell my car is and they said it has a build date sometime in Jan. They have till the end of the month to get me my car or refund all the money. Guess i will have to go back to BMW.

you ordered a car with HLSD and they said it would be in before christmas? they didnt even start making them until a few weeks ago. and i dont think nissan was taking orders for HLSD cars back in september. maybe your dealer did you a favor and decided to wait to get you HLSD instead of placing the order for a nonHLSD back in september.

They didn't start accepting HLSD orders until early November; I actually placed my order with the dealer on October 31st, and it was accepted by Nissan sometime during the week of Nov. 5th.

Thats good some of us are getting or some of us who got the '02 maxima. I don't really know how good the quality will be when the next generation maxima comes out, since it will be built out in Tenn.

Well it would have been nice if they had told me that. I know when i ordered the car they said it would be a few weeks before they can place the order because of the 6 speed. but still if you give them a month, that puts in october. Still way to long for a normal production car.

personally, i have been waiting a month already for my 6 speed and ive been told to expect to wait another month and a half. people have been waiting up to 15 weeks for their orders to come in. it is a long time to wait but your wait hasnt been anything out of the ordinary.

I ordered Aug 23, so I guess it will be six months if the car arrives as predicted in Feb. Nissan did not accept the order from dealer until October.
As of Dec 22 they did not have a VIN# so my guess is at that time it was not built. The good news we have not heard that the HLSD has been delayed.
