i can ALMOST do that now that i have another car that i can drive. before, i really didnt have any down time, now i'm more adept to being willing to try repairs. like when i get the money to do my compressor, i will be trying that as well. i did my valve covers...i hated doing it...but now i know what to do if i ever have to do it again, i know where the hidden bolts are...i'm sure next time i can do it all within 3 hrs (maybe less)

hell yea dude !

it feels great when you walk away from the work you put into your car knowing that you bought top of the line product for cheaper than the price of $hit parts your mechanic quotes you, installed it the proper way yourself, saved your money and walked away knowing that you have nothing to worry about.

for example: I bought 6 NGK V powers from autozone for $3 each, gapped them to perfection, added generous antisieze and spark promotoer, torqued to specs and walked away from the job with $20 and 1 hour of my time.

now watch your mechanic delicately do all that for you (yea right)... you'd be lucky if they even do end up changing your plugs for you after they take your $200

last time i took my car to a licensed mechanic at a shop was 7 years ago. he swapped my alternator and also ended up braking my tensioner pulley while trying to torque my belt down and of course he didnt tell me about it. how the hell do you go about opening a shop when you can't even figure out how to work a tensioner pulley?

bottom line: 1/10 of the price, 10x the quality

i'm curious...have you ever had issues removing spark plugs from the rear, even after using antiseize? i did...and i wasnt too happy about it. my new plugs i put in i didnt even use it i was so upset, i was scared i was about to break off a spark plug in the head

na..i run them down then give it a little more (admittedly i dont have a torq wrench) but i know i didnt lock them in because i'm scared of stripping the spark plug hole too lol

i duno though...i hope i dont have a problem next time i do them...one other question..when is the correct interval to do spark plugs...i think i read 30k and 60k...

depends on the plugs, OEM platinum's last about 90k, FSM suggest every 105k. V powers are copper and offer the best spark but wont last you anywhere near that long. for $18 a set im fine swapping them out every 20k. and thats like once every 3 years for me.

Plain and simple. Our family car is a 2010 Ford Expedition, this is MY car to do with what I like on the side. Spend more time fixing your own Max and stop trying to down mine. I bet at this point mine is in better shape then yours. Come see me in 6 months, Ill show you what a 5.5 gen Maxima is supposed to look like. Asswipe.

The OP spent more in a one-time repair bill than I have for repairs (not mods) in the entire time I've owned my car. And I'm an original owner. I'm guessing HotshotVQ35 can claim exactly the same thing.

Not sure what that says, but it's an interesting bit of perspective.

repairs?? you mean power steering flush, engine cleaning and coilpack swaps? all 6 at once at that too. if those are repairs then wuts a timing job?

next time at least take it to a knowledgable member from the org...... still far better than taking it to a mechanic. many of us, including myself, do that here.

I stand corrected. "Repairs & Service". However, I did have a full warranty for the first 5 years, so perhaps the whole point is a miss somehow.

What an odd way to enter the Org. It's almost as if he's daring people to come at him.

Hey thanks alot guys...I just wanted the car in top shape immediately. I like to do some tinkering here and there with my car also thats why I became a member here, but time didnt allow that. I just wanted to feel ensured that when my wife has the car alone with my son there will be no issues...and to the other comment no Im not daring anyone to come at me so save that mess...I also apologize to the member I insulted and to all you guys, I allowed a few people to get under my skin and thats not even me at all. Apologies. Ive never owned a 5th gen, and its been about 5 years since Ive had a Max at all, and since another person was eyeing the Max also I jumped and paid for it, not knowing what I paid for. I put it in ths shop while I was at work the day after I bought it to get the general safety things checked and replaced (brakes, oil change, tires, etc.) While I was at work I was thinking I spent alot less than I planned on buying it, and I dont know squat about this car, and I need it tomorrow. So when he called to say I need rotors along with my brakes I gave him a list of things to change. With being at work I honestly didnt have time to consult anyone here on the Org...Now am I grateful for the info and advice you guys have given? Absolutely! I mean if anything the car feels and runs like its brand new, alot better than it did when I brought it home after buying it. Good thing is now its all over, I feel confident and secure in my Max, and I can now begin mods...
