thinking about 2000 maxima SE

Hey you all,
I would just like thoughts and opinions about this. I'm thinking about purchasing a 2000 Maxima with 39K fully loaded SE (everything is stock!). The dealership is asking 9500 for it. She's in great shape. Just went for a test drive earlier today and she drives well. Right now, I have a 1997 Maxima GXE 143k runs great but starting to rust a little around the doors. I'm thinking about offering $9,000 for it. Once again, what are your thoughts and opinions, pros and cons.

Thanks in advance

39k?!??!?! i'd get a carfax and a autocheck on that car before i purchased it...that mileage seems extremely too low.

and when you get the carfax and autocheck, make sure the vin numbers match

I got my 00 SE recently for $4100 with 90k miles. It was maintained well and had Stillen sway bar, RSTB, FSTB and KYB GR2s. 39K sounds too good to be true....make sure to check carfax and autocheck like phatboislim suggested. Personally I will not spend $9000 on a 11 year old car.

my cousin bought a 2004 Altima with 58k miles for $8900 in Dallas. All I am saying is if you are ready to spend 9k why not buy something new.

Yeah, my thoughts, too.. $9k is way too much for the car. Off the cuff, buy it for $6k maximum, maybe even less. The miles are great, but the age is against it so all the things that rot due to age are strikes against it.

If the mileage is accurate, you should seriously consider it...

but consider it for a few thousand less.

I would definitely recommend against it. I paid $9150 for my 2002 SE 6 MT (86k miles) in October of 2008. IMO the price is too high, regardless of the mileage.

I would definitely get something newer than 2000 if you want low mileage, and for sure go for a 5.5 gen Max or even a 3.5 Altima (2005+ have a 5-speed automatic)...

Just like the others, the price is too high. That stealership is trying to take advantage of someone based off the mileage alone. You have 9K cash? Because I know for a fact you'll have a VERY hard time trying to find someone who will finance a car that's 11 years old. They probably gave some old couple $1500 on trade in or paid $2000 for it at some auction.

For what its worth, I paid $7900 for my 2003 GXE in almost new shape in 2008 with 70K miles.

Even if the miles are low, you still should be wary of the age. The car is a decade old and stuff still wears out even if its not being used.

Try talking them down. I just bought my 02 with 95K miles 3 weeks ago. It was advertised for 7400, walked out the door for 6K. remember used cars have a very high markup. They have a lot of wiggle room.
