Hey guys here's my situation. I bought a 02 about a month and a half ago. After the sale I find out that the engine has a quart and a half habit (in under a 1000 miles). I also believe the cats are bad as well. I am trying to have the dealer that i bought it from replace the engine and cats but it's not looking good. So here is my quandary.

Because I am passing the car down to my daughter in 2 years I am leaning more towards a new engine from Nissan. I am looking at a 04-07 engine, because they are cheaper than a direct replacement for the 02 engine.

I've read most of the treads dealing with the swap but i need some clarification on a couple of things. I will be using my upper intake manifold, swaping my oil pans, and will be using my existing precats (gutted). I read something about the EGR valve is different on the 04 engine, but if I am re-using my intake and precat-headers will the EGR stuff still be an issue?

Also am I missing anything else for the swap? I thought there were just those 3 things to be concerned with?

Remember to replace the 6th gen timing chain tensioner...

Would you need to replace the tensioner on a new engine? I figured you would be replacing it with the same part.

There is a new updated part that he's referring to. The old part is prone to premature failure, the updated one is not.

BUT, if you're purchasing it from Nissan, then I would hope you wouldn't need to worry.
