Weird electrical problem with sunroof?
Weird electrical problem with sunroof?
Hey forum members,
I've received some great help so far on this forum which I greatly appreciate and I'm hoping that someone else here has seen/experienced a new issue that's popped up a few times for me.
Every now and then my sunroof will partially open on it's own, remain open for maybe 3-5 seconds, and then close on it's own. Anyone ever seen this before?

Mine has recently started doing that too. However, when I had the battery unplugged to install my SRI I plugged it back in and did the sunroof reset procedure it no longer opens on it's but the vent switch is extremely unresponsive. Ive got new switches in the mail, hoping that fixes the problem. Good luck. Also, it only started happening when the outside temps reached 100 degrees.
Here's the procedure to reset it BTW:

Once you open it and close it all the way using the switch, then try using the slider switch thing, and it should open. If it doesn't, turn your car off and back on and try again. This works almost everytime for me.

I haven't unhooked my battery since I put a new one in 2 months ago. Then all of a sudden, on a random day at the mall, I parked my car and the thing went ****ing crazy. Car was off, key was out of ignition and the sunroof was opening and closing the bejesus out of itself.
It did this for about 5 minutes and then it just kept trying to open itself, it was fully open but the motor was trying like all get out to rip that sunroof through the steel in the roof itself.
While this was happening, I was flipping out, and rightly so, God knows how long it was going to keep that up and ruin my battery.
I pulled the switch out of the ceiling, figuring that it got wet or something and was shorting out, I ended up pulling the harness out of the switch itself but the motor was still going bonkers.
It finally stopped but now the sunroof opens in pulses, I'll hold the button to open it and it will go for about 2 inches and stop. I let go of the button and re-press it for another 2 inch move. AND the button that normally lifts the sunroof will actually open it now? I have no idea what the hell is going on with it, so I ended up just getting it as close to closing as possible and slid the door closed.
This thread seems familiar but my after-effect seems to be pretty original to this thread. Wondering if anyone else has had this wackyness occur.

Must be, I've been going over the 00-01 FSM and I havent found anything that describes how to reset the sunroof. If you wanted to check it out the link is in my sig over the quote button.
If you reed the manual guys you can find many interesting things there. For instance:
1. If the sunroof lid is open, push the tilting
switch repeatedly toward tilt DOWN to fully
close the lid.
2. After the lid has closed all the way, keep
pushing the tilting switch toward tilt DOWN
for more than 1 second.
Voila!
