Side Marker Upgrade under $10 :)

UPDATE ____!!!!!!!! DO NOT DO THIS MOD< IT WILL BURN THE LENSES< THE #921 is too hot.<><><>

Thread left open for informatio purposes

Well I came across a very intriguing fact today while messing with my side markers. As most of you know, the stock bulb is a #194

Well I found out a #921 will fit See below, #921 is on the left, #194 is on the right

Now, for the results!

Stock #194:

Upgraded #921:

Stock #194:

Upgraded #921:

Stock #194:

Upgraded #921:

Now, this is testament to how much brighter they are, they actually cast a decent amount of light onto the roadway, and this pic is taken at dusk, not even dark!

This is a wicked upgrade especially for those of you who have done the turn signal mod to the side markers (I'll be doing it sometime in the next century too )

-Matt

Would this work for the clearance lights as well?

What clearance lights? If you're talking about the 2002/2003 front marker lights in the headlights, then YES, it will work, although I sell much nicer bulbs for there (LED's)

i believe that's the bulb for the third brake light, might melt your side marker housings. i'd rather throw in leds if you want them brighter.

i'd be afraid of them melting as well. I had that problem with the headlight markers. Went up a few watts and melted the lens...

Also known as Parking Lights, or Running Lights. On the 5.5 gen, they are the little light directly above the front turn-signal.

Yes, you can put the #921 wedge bulbs there, because the flat wedge is the same design as the #194 bulb. However, the socket is designed to fit perfectly to the curved underside of the bulb... which doesn't quite work with the #921.

In other words, it will fit, but can shake out of the socket over time. And believe me, you don't want the hassle of trying to fish a loose bulb out of the Parking Light lens while the headlight assembly is mounted on the car. Unless you have freakishly long and flexible monkey-fingers. Ask me how I know.

Here are mine, in amber:

I haven't found any plug and play LED's that produce the correct light to match the colour. I have tried yellow, warm white, and cool white.

I have also been unable to match the 194 brightness, let alone surpass it.

If someone is aware of a LED bulb that is actually brighter and produces the same colour please let me know.

Not fun at all. Switched a co-workers bulbs out in what was supposed to take mere minutes. Had to take the whole damn thing off and shake it out of there. Pfft

---------------

As far as the 921's, I truly can't believe how much light they're producing on the ground. I'd like to believe it's the camera...but I'm not so sure.

Actually the camera downplays it a bit, makes the 194's look brighter than they are.
They really are that much brighter. I hope they don't melt or shake out, because so far, this is the best side marker light upgrade I've found for our lights.

Indeed, especially considering you'll be lighting up the front AND side of the road lol. I know you'll keep us updated (you usually do) b/c I'm also curious as to the longevity of them.

Any updates on how these have held up? Any melting or jarring loose? If not I am definitely interested in pursuing this!

Update, ran 5 days with lights on constant, the lenses started to melt.

DO NOT INSTALL THESE BULBS THEY WILL MELT THE LENSES

Thanks to those of you that called that one right off the hop. However, this started to peak my curiosity, so please transfer over to this thread::

Oh man. That sucks, Matt. Is it OK if I chuckle just a little bit?

BTW, I have the OEM lenses sitting in my attic, amber fronts and red rears both. Do you want them? PM me.

Then again, isn't Canada Post on strike or something dumb like that? I mailed something to knight_yyz like 6 weeks ago, and it still hasn't arrived.
