leave it on or turn it off?
hey guys, i'm work for my dad (we r a computer distributor), sometimes when we get too busy & the delivery guy can't deliver everything, I have to go out and deliver some small parts with my new max. and here is my question: Since I have to this alot, so i'm thinking I probably have to start my engine aboout 10 times a day. Do you guys think its bad to keep on turn on/off engine, or should I just leave it on when the stop will take less than 5 mins?? thanks!

Here's my standard:
If the wait is expected to be longer than a long red light, I turn it off.
If the wait is shorter, I leave it running.
If you do this lots (turning it on and off) daily over a few years, eventually you'll wear down the starter solenoid and ignition switch in the column.
If the wait is expected to be longer than a long red light, I turn it off.
If the wait is shorter, I leave it running.

Turn it off. You are creating air pollution + wasting fuel leaving your car on for so long.

A car uses more gas during start up than it does in idle, if you notice how the tachometer shoots up when you turn on the car but is level off below 1000 RPM's during idle

its a lil bit longer than red light, probably 5 min max.
i just don't like the idea of turning my engine w/in 5 minutes after i shut it off, if its only 1 or 2 times a day its fine, but i do this like 10 times a day!! that's why i was thinking maybe its better for my car if i just leave it on?!

Turn it off!
Forget about the wear on starter parts. Leaving your car on adds to air pollution. Some places have rules about leaving an engine idling while parked. The car's parts are under warranty anyway for three years. I think you should turn the car off if the wait is longer than a minute or two.

i'm not really worry about the starter, what worries me is the engine turns on/off too often in so short amount of time, and i think it would be bad for the engine after doing it for awhile.
maybe i'm wrong, i don't know lot about cars. is it true?

i agree w/ whoever said the redlight option...but still keep inmind the area you are in. i leave mine on when i'm staying w/ in approx 20 ft of my car and i know i won't be a while..it doesn't waste THAT much gas to leave it running..but i did leave it running idle one time for about 30 min and i noticed a dip in the needle. i rarely leave my car alone b/c i live in n.o. though.
