A blower motor upgrade?

It could be 100 degrees out side and I can jump in my 7th gen within 5 minutes I have cooled off and have turned the speed down on the ac. Even my 2 girls in the back are comfortable. Same situation but in my 5.5 gen. It could be a few miles before I get to the same point. I think it is the blower motors power. My 7th gen has rear vents and the 5.5 does not but is there a upgrade for the motor? I saw that SPal has brushless motor replacements. I was wondering if this would improve cooling or blowing power. I have check the coolant in my car and its fine. I just feel that the AC is a little weak during those blazing South Florida afternoons.

Weird. In my 5th gen, in about 1 minute i get cold air blowing from my A/C on a very hot day.

It may be cheaper to recharge your AC perhaps?

I bought one of those R-134 bottles. Once I connected it it was right at the green meaning that the air is full charged. I have not stuck a thermometer in the vent but I am sure it will read fine. I will see if I pick one up at Harbor Freight today and check. I think it should read 20 degrees cooler than ambient.

Don't know how the 5th gen differs from the 4th gen but when I filled the AC on my 4th gen I remember that the gauges they give you with the cannisters are no good because you have to measure the pressure on the other side. The only way to BS it was the thermometer but even that was risky.

Are those brushless motors built to fit the car or do you have to do you own custom fit and install?

I had a 3rd gen Maxima that would freeze you in short order. My 4th and 5th gens are nothing like the 3rd gen.

I am not sure. I don't know if are blower motors have different speeds cause a controller sends different voltage or current to it or if this is done by the blower motor its self. By that I mean that even if I put a motor the would spin at a higher RPM to push more air the controller will still only send a certain current to it making it spin at the same RPM as the old one. Anybody know how the blowers work in the AC? I think I am starting to hear my blower making some noise every now and then when on high.

Blowers have two speeds. On and off. The resistor or control unit(also using a resistor) controls the amount of voltage which varies the speed. You'll have to do more than just buy a bigger motor. You're going to have to research current draw and motor revolution at full voltage to see if it's worthwhile. It's not going to be an easy plug and play for the first person to change it.

IMO, you're better off verifying that your AC is working correctly. We've had almost 50 days of 100 plus and full sun this summer so far and there is no end in sight. Even in that, my fan is more than enough. You would have to assume that the factory fan is engineered for the best efficiency. A fan capable of moving more air doesn't always translate to cooler temps. You could very well find your interior temperature increasing.

A couple variables one needs to keep in mind when making this comparison. Is your 3rd gen using R134a? Also, the 3rd gen interior space is smaller than the 4th and vastly smaller than the 5th. Another question to ask: When was the last time you had your refrigerant system checked on the newer vehicles?

I understand there are variables since the cars are not identical.

1 - The 3rd gen (1994) used R134a. However, the 3 generations all have different a/c compressors. The 3rd gen is mechanically different from the 4th & 5th gen and the 5th gen has a larger capacity unit than the 4th gen.
2 - You are right about interior size. The 4th gen is 99.6 cu ft, the 5th gen is 102.5 cu ft. which explains the higher capacity a/c compressor for the 5th gen. However, there does not seem to be a cubic foot spec for the 3rd gen. When I look at the head room, shoulder room, leg room dimensions, I am making the assumption that the 3rd gen is maybe 6 cu ft less than the 4th gen.
3 - When my 2 cars were the 3rd and 4th gen and I realized the cooling differences, I had the 4th checked. Refrigerant level was ok and the air temp in the air ducts was also ok. I've never had the 5th gen checked, because it cools better than the 4th gen. The 4th and 5th gens do cool the interior, it just takes longer to get to the "freeze you out" point.

I guess I am wanting that "freeze you out" point quicker. Oh and my blower is definitely making noise now. I guess I jinxed myself.
