Question for manual trans. owners.

I was driving my car the other day and experienced a lag at the top end of 2nd gear and the low to top end of 3rd gear. It seemed like a temporary loss or struggle for power. I didn't hit the rev limiter that's for sure. I know that feels like.

It felt like something I was towing something. Has anyone else experienced this?

I asked Nissan about this when I took it in for service this morning. They said if the Check Engine light hasn't come on there's nothing they can do about it.

If your clutch is going South it will slip at peak torque in 4th or 5th. The RPMs will run away when floored in those gears.

did you hear the engine ping? If it lost power and heard the engine ping, then you could have a set of bad ignition coils.... apparantly, lots of people have gotten them replaced.

what was your engine's operating temperature, how many miles on your car, and what grade gas are you using?

I don't recall anything like this happened to my car, except a very temp lag of power, when the engine is cold. Also, even though I'm using only premium gas, some gas stations mix it with regular or whatever

This is definatly true. I just got my 00' SE serviced and i thought my clutch was in perfectly good condition but it turns out its almost ready to die on me and i was experiencing those same problems so it might very well be the clutch. I"m getting mine replaced for free.

I had this problem several times - finally isolated it to gas from a particular station - unfortunately my most convenient one. Avoiding that station has prevented a recurrence for several months now.
