03 Maxima Cabin Filter

Has anybody used a non-nissan replacement cabin filter? If so where did you get it? Advance Auto and Pep Boys sold them a few years ago but didn't fit properly. Any info is appreciated.

I replaced mine from org vendor importrp. It's a two-piece, charcoal activated replacement. They fit perfectly. I believe it was about 10 or 15 bucks. The old one was nasty. Great money spent!

I bought a brand called Ultra-8 (comes in a blue box), and it looks exactly like the OEM Nissan Made in Poland unit, with even the Nissan part number on the filter frame, so definitely go aftermarket. Any new cabin filter is better than a dirty cabin filter.

Aircabinman on Ebay has charcoal ones for 12 bucks. Fast shipping & fit just fine. I recently bought 2 of them.

^^^-----Bought from the same guy off ebay. No problems! Great price for the charcoal filters. That is the route you need to go!

I'm curious for the reasoning behind buying an ebay product when the same product is sold by a maxima.org vendor for the same price?

^^^ Right you are, sir. I was unaware that this vendor had the same part for only $10! Although it looks the same, it does not state that they are carbon filters.

They are. I called before I ordered mine. Plus, it was stated on the box as well.

That's where I got mine too and they're definetly carbon. But, since importrp sells them for less than 10 bucks, next time I'll buy mine there.

I bought some carbon filters for furnace and cut them to size, reused the OEM filter frames. For $15 I get a few sets of filters

i found some for about 20 including shipping on ebay. the fit perfectly and came with detailed instructions on how to install them. the thing is my 2000 gle did not have any filters in there. and the compartment had lint, dust leaves, pine needles , plastic parts and bugs in there. i got it cleaned up with a crevice tool and vacuum. can't figure why there was no filter there. by the way. it's a two piece filter.

Because you get so much better airflow without them. I am in the process of replacing mine and I've been driving around for a couple weeks without filters. Much better cooling, but the car is a tad dustier now.

Oh, in the instructions, it says NOT to disconnect the yellow airbag harness. make sure you head the warning, lol. I somehow missed that and now I've got that stupid flashing airbag light.

Auto zone works but they were 39.00 dollars. It did help the cigarette smoke smell coming from the vents.

I purchased a "STP" brand cabin filter on an impulse buy. The fit is not as tight as the OEM filter I bought from Nissan. It's OK...but I think it makes a slight vibration when powering the fan up or down.

ADVICE: WHILE YOU HAVE THE FILTER OUT, RUN YOUR HEATER ON HIGH FAN! IT WILL BLOW OUT ALL THAT CRAP THAT ACCUMULATES IN THE BOTTOM OF THE HEATER BOX (before the AC radiator). Use a flashlight to make sure there is no junk left in there. Or, use a car wash vacuum cleaner TO VACUUM IT OUT! THEN SPRAY LYSOL IN THERE BEFORE inserting the new filter.

Now I know where to get them. I ended up cleaning up mine @ the last minute. I had the panels out securing my ipod adapter USA spec unit that was rattling and driving me crazy installed years ago by a shop. Sunday afternoon @ 5:30 PM we ended up banging the filters against a cement wall. Lots of crap came out of them and the look almost new. Thanks for the great info. Brian.

Will buying new ones make a difference after banging 90+ % of the garbage out of the old ones?

Carbon only lasts so long. So, if you do use carbon filters, the answer is yes.

I'm glad I found this thread. I was about to get an aftermarket from Advance for $33. Sent a PM to importrp and in the meantime found this on ebay as well:
