not again...damn you pothole
Many of you guys may know that my car was caught in a flood and thank god
the car drives fine again. However, i was on my way to the supermarket and
hit a damn pothole. I was only driving about 40 mph and look at this damage.
I hope that this wheel is fixable cause they stop making the volk gts
phantom edition.

i called my insurance company and submitted a claim but i doubt they will cover it. I will
go to a placed called wheelofamerica where they can fix the bend but i am a little
worried that they can't fix the bend cause its a two piece wheel. Wish me luck

I've never even heard of "General" Tires...
Sad to see the wheel messed up though. Hopefully it can be fixed.
The guy I bought my max from tried to sell me some 18" TSW's that had similar damage on them for $500 with tires. I passed as they were chrome and tacky and he wanted way to much for the damage caused. He also said it was a pothole that had damaged the wheel.

I'd venture to say the rim is toast. At best they will fix it but the rim will be out of round. At worse is the center piece is cracked which will make the rim unfixible. If anything you could always buy one rim and have it colormatched to your other rims.
BTW I would also venture to say that tire is toast. With that amount of damage the sidewall has to be bruised. That is something that can make the sidewall of the tire blow out.

shiet!! thats tough **** right there son you screwed up some volks like that...but this helps the argument GH and i had about daily on some expensive rims lol...theyll still bend, so give me the cheap ones, no skin off my back to rock the cheap ones, if i like the look

I made the mistake of buying rims without really looking at em. One was bent pretty bad. I used alloy wheel repair. They work mobile and did a great job. The wheel was as close to perfectly round as i can imagine possible after several people told me it was unfixable. See if they are in your area and give them a call.

I got my car towed to wheels america in Philly and they told me that it can be repaired. The tire was still holding air. I checked the psi yesterday which was at 40 and it is still the same today.

Man that was pretty bad, I just had one of my 19's repaired because I hit a damn pothole, it actually cracked my wheel, but they did a great job repairing the damage. At least yours are repairable!

if i know that im rolling on rare and expensive rims id dodge pot holes, debres, and cunstruction trucks better than the matrix. i once got pulled over for doing so and cops asked me am i drunk and i said listin here sir im rolling on low pro tires (245-40-18) and do not want to ruin my expensive rims (gold rays gramlights), and he said yeah alright that makes sense. thought i was going to get breathorized bahahha!. lol

i just came here to tell you to ship it to them. think they have a $120 flat repair fee including return shipping. from what i've heard they are one of the best in the business. why did you tow the car? you could have just taken the wheel there. told you it could be fixed, ditch those tires afterwards

Chrisman287, im rocking 43 psi for sometime now... no problems...

OP, hope it all works out cause those GTS' are amazing. <3 GTS Phantoms.
Prophecy, 43 psi is kinda dangerous as you're probably not getting a good sized patch on the ground. Most cars spec is around 32-36, I usually run 37 all around to make up for slack in the sidewall.
Ignorant statement.

'getting a good size patch on teh road'...why are the psi recommendations put on the tires if they havent considered the 'right size patch' that that specific tire should have in order for good traction. for the most part...its not like we're racing..we're daily driving, achieving MPG running the recommended PSI per tire manufacturer...
#27
OP, if the rim isn't fixable but the face is good, maybe you can try getting another phantom barrel from Volk? Don't even know if it's possible, just a thought.
Expensive rims bend and are usually repairable, cheap ones are more prone to cracking. Not talking any ****, hell I'm running XXR's, just saying.

VOLKS are not indestructible but they sure as hell take much more beating over generic wheels. OP bent this rim because he has crappy tire and probably tire pressure was low.

Well, this is the first thread I have seen on the org or elsewhere that bashed General Exclaim UHP's - they're certainly the darling of the tire thread in the tires and wheels section. Sidewalls could be stiffer though, granted.
This being said, I hit some pretty nasty holes on mine (which are 17" SE stock size) and even on my admittedly crappy Kazera rims nothing has broken yet, knock on wood.

And I wouldn't go as far as saying Exclaims are a bad tire. Soft sidewall yes, bad tire no.
#32
UHP's provide decent traction but soft sidewalls suck and this thread is clear proof. Also seen one too many of them randomly blow up.
#33
There are a decent amount of people here buying fairly expensive UHP summer tires. Pilot Cups aren't in the same category to be fair, but for a summer UHP tire, the Exclaims do pretty well when comparing to the rest. And just because a tire is more expensive, does not mean it is superior.
#34
'traction' has more to do with softenss of the rubber than contact area. manufacturer's dont put PSI limits based on right size patch, LOL. its a limit recommended to avoid too much stress on the structure and possible explosion. do you really think the PSI rating would give the same contact patch on all cars? knowing that a maxima weights 3000lbs and a toyota tercel weights 1500lbs?

This thread is beginning to remind me of a saying. "...just enough information to be dangerous." Where are some of you getting your information from?

I think you're confusing DD use with track use. Generally what's good for one purpose isn't the best for the other. I sure would not want to be driving anything close to a track-specific setup in any car in the DC area public streets. Even my H&R+Illumina setup on 17's can be jarring at times around here.

glad i dont have to elaborate further

Geeze... thanks you just made me realize I've been driving for 19 years junior.
