Auto Shifter Light

The other day when I was driving, I noticed that my shifter light is out. I took the arm rest thing off and the shifter and replaced the bulb with an 194 LED one and still won't light up.
Is there a fuse for that light that I can check? Or what am I missing.
Thanx

There is a fuse but your climate control lights and gauge lights wouldnt work as well. I know because I blew the fuse couple months ago. Are your other lights working?

Yeah, my gauge lights and control lights are working fine. Not sure what it could be tbh with you. I just hope its not like a wire, even though I looked at the wire that connects to the bulb to see if its cut or something, but it was perfectly fine

If it wasn't so long and confusing, I'd sig this, thank you sir, you just made me laugh my A$$ off in the morning.

Now, OP, to me it sounds like you tried a bad LED bulb, or just installed the LED backwards. Try a KNOWN GOOD bulb in there, I betcha it'll work.

Sorry for bumping an old thread, but did this ever get resolved? Were you able to remove the chrome bezel to replace the bulb? I am trying this now, and am hopelessly lost.

Gavin,

Try this writeup I did a while back to replace the HVAC bulbs. It covers the shift indicator light as well.

I read through that one (it was somewhere on another post) but I don't really understand it. It says to lift up the four clips with a flathead screwdriver, and I did that. They don't move upwards at all.

Could you post us a picture of what you're seeing? I'll mark it up with some arrows and such showing you what to push or pull in what direction.

^It differs from 2000/2001 to 2002/2003. The 2000/2001 is a #194, which is a T10 wedge size.
The 2002/2003 is a T5 size, or #74, which is the same as the Gauge cluster, key ring, over-ashtray light, and glovebox light.

That silver bezel should and will lift straight up for sure somehow. I'm not seeing any locking tabs, but gently fiddle with it and it should lift up.

dude just pay someone to do it, obviously it's past your competancy level. I'm tired of seeing this thread bumped. Unless someone is going to come over to your house and do it for you, or take you by the hand physically, then stop posting, this is just foolish.

A simple "We can't help you" would have sufficed. You took it too far by taking personal stabs at me. I have blocked you and reported you for harassment. Since this behavior seems to be tolorated here, I WILL be taking my problems elsewhere. Have a good day.

If anyone actually does know how to do this, please just send me a Private Message. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. I really want to avoid taking it into the shop for a frivolous problem like this, but at the same time I'd also like to avoid trolls like that guy.

The bezel on my shifter might be deformed or defective to the point where it's stuck... I hope that's not the case.

It's really too bad you blocked me, cause I was going to help you.

I said what I said because you've randomly posted "bump" every few days-weeks for the last months now.

You haven't even asked a new question, or made any comments whatsoever.

For anyone wondering, this plastic piece is just very stiff, not the usual flexible plastic, you'll need 2 flatheads, one in each hand and work the back 2 tabs open first, then pry up a bit so they come off the locks, then do the same for the front, and slide it off.

If someone wants to be nice they can quote this for the lazy deuchebag above that insists on being spoonfed even though he's a grown man.

If you were trying to help then that's the wrong way of doing it. I thought you were trolling for your own enjoyment. Anyways, thanks for the information. If that works, I'll make a video of it and post it on YouTube for anyone else who wants to do this.

Seriously though, can we keep the personal attacks to a maximum of, let's say, zero? I'm pretty sure these fourms are for helping eachother, not childish arguements. BTW I am not a "grown man". I am only 18 and have had no real experience with this sort of thing.

These forums are not for spoon feeding, they're for assisting people, sharing modifications/mainentnece issues, resources, etc.

Writing 'bump' every random once in a while for no forseeable reason doesn't even incinuate that you still need, or want help. It makes it seem like you're just trying to raise your post-count with useless Posts. We call it Post-Whoring around here.

I made no personal attacks on you, if you consider that a personal attack you must live a pretty sheltered life man.

Also, clearly you didn't even block me, WTF? Anyways, let it go. Best of luck, and in the future, ask for help, don't just Post-***** the crap out of a thread randomly, and you might get somewhere on these forums, without getting 'personal attacks' as you put it.

I see. If you look at my profile, I've only been a member here for 2 months. So I'm sorry, I didn't know that bumping was an issue. And I do conciter your comments personal attacks. I don't appreciate being told I am incompitent and I'm being spoonfed and being called a D-bag. I think the guidelines on this fourm specifically warn against that sort of thing. And so what if I am sheltered? I shouldn't be subject to abuse on here...

And I WAS going to block you... then I realized I don't even know how to do that.

Well at least someone got something out of this. All this fuss over a stupid T10 bulb. I just hope I can get this working tomorrow. If not I am just going to completely give up and take it into the repair shop.

Maybe this will help with finding bulb size. The bulb by the shifter is usually the same as dash. Cant help beyond that, not familiar with shifter setup in '00-'01

Thank you for the link but it doesn't seem to be listed. That other guy said it's a T-10 earlier in the fourm and I think he seems to know what he's talking about. Either way I'll find out for sure tomorrow. Assuming it is a T10, I got a nice little $10 5050 LED bulb for it.

LMAO that 'other guy' is me, the one who wasn't helping, remember?

You'll be better off with a multi directional bulb like this:

The one you posted will hot-spot pretty bad because the LEDs on the side are no where near the intensity of the one on the top, basically you'll only see the 'N' position. Even the multi-directional one will hot-spot, but it'll still look great, and won't be nearly as bad.

Then again, if you have that LED in hand already, I'd try it, I'm sure it will suffice, and will be better than nothing, and probably better than stock.

No, but if you have that one shown on hand, I'd use it.

If you have to buy one anyways, one with all 5050 SMD's (same LED all around) is what I'd recommend, unless you want to spend a lot of money on a crazy LED bulb.

You CAN fit a really big one in there, I've done it, but it requires cutting the tip of the housing or cutting the bulb base down just a shade.

This is the 5 SMD one I pictured in white:

This is the larger one I fitted in:
