Will 4th gen struts fit on a 5th gen?

Alright so basically I need new struts up front because mine are leaking/broken boots/ making noise when you turn. It's a 2000 maxima SE

My buddy has a 97 max parts car with the struts still in good condition. All I was wondering if the front struts from the 97 will fit on the 2000.

Thanks guys- Spence'

Yeah I'm leaning towards that the fronts would but not the rear, but I only need the fronts. I'm just trying to not spend a ton of money, though if it's confirmed they won't fit then there's not much I could do lol.

Well if saving the money really means that much to you, if your buddie already has them off his car just try to put them on.

Worst thing that can happen is they wont fit and you can tell your buddie you dont want them..

If I found them cheap at a 1/2 off sale at the junkyard I would try it, but if not I would save up for some good 5th gen struts. If you are getting them free, or almost free from a buddy, then have at it, and report back.

The front struts might work on a 5th gen but I think you'll have to use the 4th gen strut mounts w/ the 4th gen struts for it to possibly work...Haven't tried this but I think that'd be the only way if they were to work...Good luck, let us know what you figure out

Curious as to why it wouldn't work on a 5.5. Isn't the suspension the same from 2000-2003?

I'm 100% sure they will not fit. The struts for a 2000 has a 1/2" wider span for the bottom mounting bolts on the knuckle. You could swap the knuckles to get it to fit but IMO it's not worth it.

I know I bumped an old thread but I don't want other member wasting time trying to swap strut assemblies from 4th to 5th GEN maximas as I just did.

Do you own a drill?

I'm about to be guilty of bumping an old-*** thread too.

If the only problem with interchanging 4th, 5th, and 5.5 gen front struts is a steering knuckle mount hole is off by 1/2", couldn't you just redrill the one hole on the strut mounting plates to align with the steering knuckle hole? I'm going to look into this as I found some 5th gen tokicos and i have a 4th gen.

Is the top strut mount the same between 4th and 5th?

With the 5.0 GEN (2000 & 2001) strut being wider you can drill a hole via the strut to fit on a 4th GEN knuckle. Opposite cannot be done with the 4th GEN strut being narrower. Not knowing the knuckle size I cannot speak for the 5.5 GEN.

The mounts are the same for 4th and 5.0 GEN.
