Exhaust help needed

Exhaust help needed
I, not too long ago, purchased a 2002 SE 6spd.
The car came with this exhaust set up:
precats>main cat>hiflo resonator>fart can.
I cut the fart can off and ran a straight pipe with a resonated tip from the resonator back.
I liked the sound to some degree, but I lost low end torque. Plus, the sound fizzled at higher rpms.
the I installed a Flowmaster super 40......
precats>main cat>hiflo resonator>flowmaster
well, I got low end torque back. i got a pretty good tone, but not the "open" sound I was looking for.....not to mention the drone. Plus, the volume dies out at higher rpms.
what am I looking for? a deep tone + volume....I want the crackling, gurgling sound during slow shifts as the rpms drop or when down shifting.
my question is.......can I accomplish this if I:
a. cut out the cat
b. cut out the hi flo resonator
c. cut out the cat & res.
d. replace only the flow master with say a vibrant or magnaflow.
these are pretty much my only options as i have house, other car, kid, cat, dog, frog, tarantula, fish, and girlfriend.......you get the point.
thanks in advance for any and all input.

Did you just list those responsibilities in order of importance? Check out youtube and compare the exhaust setups there.Search megan catback, cattman, etc. Don't forget to get videos of the car under load, much different sound.

First figure out how much time and money you want to put into this system. You're trying to piece meal an already piece mealed system. You may get the sound and power you want; but, how much will you spend on it - in cash and time. I like to get it right asap so i would recommend cattman performance (it's who I have now) or a local shop so you can move on to the next process in your build.
No - I'm not limited only to cattman performance - I've just not had any experience with the other brands. Well except one 2.5" system I bought from ebay which looked great, never got installed (at least on my vic). when it did get installed on a 2K2 auto the driver said the drone was insane and he ended up using the factory muffler.
Good luck man - either method will work, one will be a bit more of an adventure. enjoy the build.

Cattman's gone, unless someone buys the brand.
It seems that it will take a while for the Org to catch up with that fact.

CATTMAN should have one more 3'' Exhaust left if he hasn't sold it already, and should call when he gets back from his trip to see if you can get them Headers also, last batch, unless somebody gets the company......
