350z Clutch Upgrade Question
Im going to go ahead and upgrade my clutch while my motor's out and was planning on going with a 350z clutch upgrade. I just wanted to confirm first which year 350z clutch will work. Will any clutch from a 2003-2008 350z work? I got a quote from Nissan for a 2003 350z clutch and just wanted to get confirmation from you forum members before I spend the money to find out it wont work.
Before anyone jumps the gun and says to not reuse the oem flywheel or to not get it resurfaced, I understand that and currently have a fidanza flywheel on the way. I also know that I have to use the maxima TOB. Help me out guys, going to go and order the clutch tommorow once Im certain on which year will work.

I believe all model years will work, but that is not to say they are all equal.
2003-04 (VQ35DE) Unsprung
2005-06 (VQ35DE Rev-Up) Sprung, now supersedes 03-04
2007-08 (VQ35HR) Sprung with different pressure plate
A quick look at prices on Courtesy will tell you which is the better clutch ($370 vs $575). Don't get me wrong, though; you would be fine going with the 05-06 clutch.

Now that's not to say that the prev owner didn't replace it already but from our 04 here w/ 22k miles that one is sprung....

As much as Id like to get the exedy stage 1 clutch, the more I think about it the more that I realize it would be overkill for my setup. IMO, a 350z clutch will suit it perfectly. Now with that said, what are your opinions on a clutch like this:

You will just have to buy a clutch release bearing for the max if you use a z clutch.
I had dave at South Bend Clutch make me a solid steel flywheel and I have been running this set up since march I love it.

Since the OEM flywheel is sprung (dual mass) I do not think it is best with this clutch. I know for a fact that single mass flywheel with unsprung clutch (OEM maxima) is way too chattery. From my research the best bet is to only get one piece sprung (either the flywheel or clutch). I think that the fidanza flywheel with that clutch will be fine. Try searching 350z clutch in the 5th gen forums under titles.

B. Nissan has used both Sprung and unsprung flywheels on their vehicles
C. My car is a bit more unrefined and more responsive with the Fidanza, meaning a little bit more drivetrain chatter with the 03-05 (Sprung) 350z clutch. My friend has the same Clutch+PP setup I do (03-05 350z) and he's using an OEM DMF, smooooooooooovness, only thing you hear/feel is just the chirp of the tires on shifts.
D. Of course an unsprung LIGHTWEIGHT flywheel and an unsprung clutch is going to have a harder bite on engagement, wtf do you expect with a non-oem setup???
What what? I am am answering his question saying that If he uses the clutch in the link he needs to use a aftermarket flywheel.

The exedy stage one clutch does have a slightly larger surface area than the standard 350 z clutch. And being a stage 1 it will hold more torque and horsepower than the OEM.
Also if you check the exedy specs... the stage 1 maxima clutch holds more power then the exedy 350z clutch. That might be due to the TOB though

Will a clutch designed for the h/r 350z's fit with no modifications into a Maxima? Also, anyone have an idea on what the clutch pedal feel is like and its holding capacity? Im looking for a clutch setup that has a light pedal feel but also grips well at the same time and can hold a decent amount of power.
