GAB mod round 2

So a couple weeks ago I did the coat hanger gab mod, and some how it resulted in a bad mafs. I'm pretty sire it was done right, but I wasn't up for trying again. Tonite I was bored, and decided to do the drilled version.

I took out the filter holder, drilled 1" holes across the top and put it back in, in about 5 mins. After going for a test drive, I'm quite pleased, it sounded pretty damn good for a 5 min, free mod.

Compared to bending up that stupid coat hanger and wondering if it's gonna hold it in tight enough, this was fast, easy and for what it is, pretty wicked.

I'm going to get rid of the stock box and get a maf adapter, v stack/conefilter soon, but I was bored and this was cool

When I did GAB on my old '03, I ended up cutting the whole front panel off. (the part facing the battery).

Haha I considered doing that, I also considered just cuttin par of the top portion of the filter holder off, which would delete the plastic left around the holes... Since there's no going back now anyway haha

Im heading over to home depot tomorrow to look for grommets that will stay secure because honestly I have been back and fourth with the coathanger so many times. Sometimes I love the sound right with the power and other times it seems I'm making noise and going nowhere. The option of plugging holes is what I want and I may even screw around with removing the snorkel because I hear that the hole will make a little whistle sound?

I know, I'll just drill some holes for the GAB and glue kazoos in them.

This is what I ended up doing. I took a hacksaw with a fine blade and hacked the rest of the plastic off. It looks a lot cleaner that way and its easier to sand it down after to get rid of the plastic flakes.

Also, a K&N or Apexi drop in filter makes the GAB even better if you haven't gotten one already.

The main cat is welded to the factory y pipe? You could always get a high flow cat or a test pipe since there's no sensor after the main cat.

I was thinkin about a high flow cat, would it cause you to fail emissions?

Probably not since you'll still have the precats in the exhaust. Unless you're getting headers then I'm not sure.

Edit: you posted before me. If you already have gutted pre's then I'm not sure. Check the fine print on HFC product pages and see if it says anything about meeting emissions standards.
