Massive oil leak?
I got an oil change a few days ago when I checked the bill it said I have a massive oil leak. I never see oil on the ground or on the engine anywhere plus my car rides good, so where would the oil be going or are they bsing me?

Probably got a oil burner, I had one on my 03 put 5 qts in after 3000 miles change oil and get like 3 1/2 out, till engine croked out like 155k, got a 04 engine and no more oil disappearing it was so nice to see all the oil come out...but ride got totaled ..2 months later...

A massive oil leak isn't a burner. And just because you don't see oil on the ground doesn't mean it is not leaking.
Start checking at the rear v.c. and work your way down. Use dye if you have to. Keep in mind you may also have another fluid leak other than engine oil, i.e. power steering, etc.

How worried should I be about the beginning of a leak at the main seal? The mechanic said its not dripping, just some moistness around the seal, but because of the labor involved he quoted about $1200 to take care of a rear main oil seal. Car has 108000 miles, recently bought it (2000 GLE). He said it was something to be concerned about over the long haul but not something that would prevent the purchase if a good deal.

mechanic said it was possible rear main seal, but since it was just a used vehicle inspection and he didn't take things apart to get back there, that is not written in stone. He did say nothing is dripping, just some oil residue, and it was not an immediate red flag but something to keep an eye on

I wouldn't worry about it if it is just moist around it.

rear main seal requires tranny removal to replace, but it easy to do once you're there. the seal & retainer bolts onto the back of the block with a paper gasket and seals against the oil pan. very common to leak, but it's usually the lip seal around the oil pan, not the rear main seal itself.
personal practice is to change them every time I do a clutch job.
