HELP UD Pulley Question
HELP UD Pulley Question
My mechanic just called me because he is installing a Stillen UD pulley and he said that the engine is externally balanced and that there is some kind of harmonic vibration thing that is on the stock crank pulley and if you take it off it will cause vibration in the engine and and wear on the bearings and he said until I get the engine internally balanced that I should not install the pulley. He said that if I want him he will install it but he won't be responsible for engine damage and all and told me to call Stillen and ask.....but I know people on here with lightweight pulleys and UD pulleys...what the hell is he talking about?? Anyone got any opinions??? suggestions??

Read a couple posts down, Dave B has good input. Sounds fine to use the UD per Dave. I would replace the crank shaft seal a the the same time for preventative measures.

Thanks man.......I actually called a few places that work on VQ35 engines and they said that they are internally balanced....so they put the pulley on....no problem.
I had a 97 Maxima auto and had that transmission mod done to my car...HATED it. The 4th gen Auto is ALREADY GARBAGE anyway....from 1st to 2nd there was always a slight "learch" forward, but if you were real easy on it hardly noticable. So I decided to get this transmission MOD doen to my tranny to make it shift faster and get rid of that long shift....HATED IT!!!! From 1st to 2nd shift was this big THUD and YANKED your neck back.....just amplified the STOCK tranny shifts by 5 times!!! Even under light throttle still YANKED you back...it was SOO embarrassing riding with people in the car...they would be like "something wrong with your tranny you need a new one." Especially when I was single and had chicks in the car..watching their head snap back......SUCKED!!!! It was great when I was racing and getting on it...but for a daily drive SUCKED........I finally got rid of it because I was turning a corner one day from a stand still and got on it and the shift from 1st to 2nd was SO HARD.....all I heard was a THUD CLUNK.....and NO YANK this time....RPMS went all the way up.......pushed the accelerator and rpms just go up as if it was in neutral.....had to have it towed. Mechanic told me that drive shaft snapped off in transmission and had to replace the ENTIRE TRANNY and get new drive axle.....I would NEVER recommend that crap to anyone.....BUT who knows...maybe they made the technology better...I wouldn't do it......

One step closer, getting anxious, tell them to get on with it. I think the parts just might look better on your car instead of your bed.
