So I have heard this noise for about a week now and I figured it was something in my car because I had alot of junk in the car. Cleaned the car out the other day and I still hear the knocking...It seems to only do it when I put the car into gear. When the car is in park, you cant hear it but as soon as you put it in gear, you can hear the knocking noise good. Sounds like its coming from the tranny but its hard to pinpoint. Any help will be appreciated...

 

After just going back outside to listen to it, it sounds like its coming from the timing chain area...

 

How's the motor mount on that side?

 

That motor mount is good but its not the mount, I really think its rod knock, already pricing a new motor and tranny..Might not even be worth it and the Max might be gone....

 

How do you jump from a noise when only going into gear to the engine and tranny are shot?

And since you have a 3.0, unless you don't ever change the oil, that's highly unlikely.

 

Well my tranny been acting up for awhile so I already know I need another one and I have to get the knocking noise checked out. I'm going to try to record a video and upload it on here so i can get some feedback.

 

Just for giggles, you may want to check the middle exhaust mount. I had the front end noise when the CV axle went out. Fixed that, noise was better, but still there. Put sway bushings on. Noise was better, still there. Changed motor mounts. Noise was much better, just intermittent then. (obviously at 120k, much work was needed). Finally, I wondered if it was an exhaust noise because I could not tell if it it was in the middle of the car or front. It was if the rattle sound moved. Probably multiple areas of exhaust rattling. Sure enough, exhaust was rattling on cross bar. Mount was shot, and hanger bent. Fixed now. I just point this out because it is easy to check, and is annoying.
