RAYCO STS FAIL

I was wondering if anyone had a similar issue with this company.

I was referred to them by Cattman performance so I assumed they would be a reputable company. I order there sts adapter, and bushings. This worked for about 7 1/2 months. Well as I am driving down the hwy the other night, I go to throw it in neutral to coast down to meet a lowered speed limit, my car will not come out of 6th gear and the shifter would move freely in any direction... I was a little ticked off by this and at the time had no clue as to what the issue was. I stopped at a gas station (about 11:30 at night) and there just so happened to be a AAA tow truck driver who had tools he let me borrow to try and fix it. As I got to looking I noticed that the pin on the Rayco adapter had wiggled loose and came up so that the linkage disconnected. I had to tap down the pin to go back into the bushing on the linkage, I figured that since I had to hit it pretty good that it would stay till morning when I could find a way to permanently fix it. I made my last stop then headed home. On my way home, I shifted lightly from 3rd to 4th and all of sudden no gear was available. At least this time I knew the issue. I had a friend bring me tools and attempted to do the same fix, Well this time the pin that holds the linkage was completely gone. I put the car in 3rd by hand and drove about 7-10 miles at 20mph to a friends house with a garage. Not fun.

I call Rayco the next morning. they tell me "sorry it only has a 6 month warranty. Ill take off $5 if you want to buy a new one"

I replied no thanks to that generous offer. Has any one else see this kind of issue out of Rayco or their products?

Never heard of that happening. I have the TWM Performance one though.

And if the pin was missing, why couldn't you just go back to stock while on the side of the road instead of limping it home? It's a 5 minute job once you pull the air cleaner off.

You have to be able to count to potato to figure that out.

First off it's Ralco not Rayco lol, and your sig says reyco, I think that about sums this thread up all together, And your sig says you have a pop charger meaning you have access to the linkage,If that happened why would you make a last stop instead of going home first until you could fix it ?

That sucks. I remember when my B&M shifter linkage bolts came loose was a bitc$ used locktight and all good.

The reason I stopped again was to drop off my girlfriend who was with me. The reason I didnt fix it on the side of the road, was I didnt have allen wrenches to loosen the bracket, or a screw driver that would work to pry it off. I was back to stock that night once I got my hands on allen wrenches. And the misspelling was a simple oversight... Not that big a deal.

TWM says no STS adapter for 6spd?

Hey- I have been reading up on the available STS for my 6spd 02 SE, and as Active Tuning's web site says the 2-piece is no longer available, I was going to buy the TWM, as it looked a little 'cleaner' than the Ralco. However, I recieved this as the last response in reference to this part on their web site -'Nissan Maxima Short Shift Adapter Kit (NALT0204SA, Part 4572)'-

"The adapter for the 02-03 will only fit the 5spd. I am told that there is
indeed two transmission options for these years."

I am unsure what to do. Would it be possible for anyone with a 6psd 5.5 be willing to tell me what part number from TWM DOES fit? Thanks in advance.....

That is the adapter you need for the 6spd 5.5gen Max. (NALT0204SA, Part 4572)

No problem. I got mine straight from TWM's site when I ordered and that is the part number listed when I just looked it up.

I have a Ralco STS and have had NO issues with it at all. I'm really trying to figure out what you are talking about. Are you talking about the allen screws on the shifter that came loose? If so then on the directions it tells you to use some stuff(forgot the name of it...think its locktight or something like that) but its red and you put that on the screw to keep it from wiggling free. I also believe there is a pin in there that actually holds the shifter down as well.....Sounds like you may have an install problem.....I'll try to take some pics on mine later and show you so you can perhaps explain a little more and see if yours looks the same.

What the guy is saying is that the pin shown in this pic fell out of the adapter. Maybe he can just get it welded back in for $5 from someone local.

Well not quite but he made it seem like 20mph was all that could be attained in 3rd gear...

Ralco Short Shift adapter user here too, I installed mine in August and it hasn't cause me any issues other than highlighting the 5.5 gens super buttery shift action I noticed a bit of rust on your adapter though, could it be that the bolt rusted out on the top part we're not seeing? Just a thought.
