Where to get an axle for 6 speed?

ok...i have another thread i started here a week or so ago about a vibration after installing a new axle...long story short...the GSP axle is the culprit (my car is a 02 se with a 6 speed manual) seesm like GSP didn't put a dampener on any of the axles for this car and under acceleration...you get a slight vibration. i replace the pass axle on 9/21/11...and it broke last monday. the new axle Advanced auto gave me under their 1 year warranty vibrated slightly worse than the first one. i was in advanced auto yesterday with a 45 minute conversation with the manager about a total refund. basically i told him if i didn't get my $110 back...he better stock pile pass side axles for a 02 maxima with a 6 speed...cuz i would be there every other month. i think he agrees and told me he we call me at the end of this week about a full refund.

ANYWAY.....nobody else offers this axle besides Advancedauto that i could find
. Nissan wants...HOLD ON TO YOUR BUTT CHEEKS...$630 for it...and courtesyparts.com offers the oem axle for slightly less..$530

Raxle does not make a axle for this car
DSS does not make an axle for this car
Napa "etc
AutZone "etc
Car Quest "etc

one member "aacshun" suggested this dampener kit:

but i have no idea if it can be installed over the axle without taking it apart...i guess its worth the $34 dollars to find out.

does anyone know of a aftermarket comapny that makes this axle that comes with a dampener????

I know this might sound bad, but if you do a search you will find many topics on this. I recall there being a post about this a few months ago and there was a brand named with dampers but I dont remember. GSP axles, from what I hear, are GARBAGE and known to be garbage for the reason you stated. I seen some posts with some other options, but you'll have to search. Raxle makes a drivers side axle only I know that because I actually spoke with them, but they dont make a passenger side. If you really want to I heard the drive axle shop makes custom axles....but don't know how much they charge.

I installed these, and I'm 100% satisfied

I researched axles far and wide before purchasing these(both sides) and installing in August. These axles, fabricated in China for Diversified Shaft Solutions (http://www.dsscvaxles.com/) are new rather than remanufactured. I found some positive feedback from Subaru forums, but not much for Nissans.
Purchased from EBay, seller theimportexperts in case the links don't function. I was suspicious because of the price, but decided to give them a try. The seller also indicated they felt these were the best bang for the buck in the market, after selling several other brands in the past. They are as pictured in the listing, with vibration dampeners integrated, and correct length for the 6 speed. I've had zero issues with them since installation, and I don't baby my car. Note-no issues includes no vibration.
The only thing I didn't like about them is the axle nut is not OEM style, but rather a castle nut. I chose to purchase new Nissan axle nuts, which are flanged, because they have more contact area at the base.

Good luck!

Great information. To the OP, let me know if Advanced takes the axles back because I would be happy to return mine and get these ebay ones.

you might want to try the R&R service that A1 Cardone offers if your in the Philly area you can always go down and drop it off for a rebuild.

This is a great post.

Hopefully more peeps will chime-in with advice or stories about installing those OEM vibration dampners. --never seen THAT before--.

I work at a Nissan Dealer, and can get a discount, but even THEN - a replacement OEM axle is gonna be 5 x more expensive than it SHOULD be.
However -- i have NO intention of replacing either of my axles and then having a vibration issue.
i have that NOW with my OEM's, and not looking to do the axle replacement boogie.

Good post -- and please guys, keep the info coming!

DSS does in fact make an axle for the 6 speed. I am the one who posted side by side pictures of the GSP vs. DSS.

Here is the correct part # >>> OP (DSS) # 8006N

Here is the thread >>> http://forums.maxima.org/5th-generat...-pictures.html

DSS also makes a nice drive side axle as well w/dampner.

I do not have a side by side but here is the correct part # >>> OP (DSS) # 8001N

There is another thread I have on this as well, but can't find it.

THOSE ARE DSS Axles! Those are the same ones I purchased but I purchased locally through Federated Auto Parts.

Wonder why they have it in their catalog then? Maybe dude just wanted to go home and didn't want to be bothered that day.....According to their catalog for a 2002-03 Maxima Manual left side is: 8001N and right side is 8006N. What the heck??

Just to confirm-they do, and those are the parts I installed

I installed parts 8001N and 8006N manufactured by Diversified Shaft Solutions. I think the confusion may stem from the fact there is another outfit called DSS (short for the Drive Shaft Shop) that produces axles, that are apparently high HP applications for US muscle. I have seen others mention they obtained them from FP also, but I liked the price I found on EBay.

Drive Shaft shop is not only for US muscle cars. They actually will make ANY drive shaft custom for you. So for dude just to send a simple email saying "we dont make it" and thats it would be dumb. He could have at least offered to make a custom one. Some thing like :"im sorry we don't normally carry those in stock, but we can custom make axles for any application." Would make more sense.

Drive Shaft Shop does not make anything for the maxima. However they do make custom axles so I am sure if somebody contacted them and there was enough interest, they would make a set. Just the price would probably be higher but their axles stand up to any task.

Thanks for the correction, I had only seen them referenced for American cars, and knew they were pricey. Checked out their site, and see they have a large selection for imports too...ouch on the $$, but we're talking another dimension in quality and strength.

Hey Nismo --

Thanks for that info. Awesome.
DSS are now my front runners for replacement.
Cupla ??'s:
1. Did you have to buy OEM Gasket for the trans housing where the shaft goes into the tranny? (did I just SAY that?!)
2. Did you loose any/much fluid from the tranny during the swap?
3. Are you LOWERED at ALL??

thanks bro.

yeah...those axles are for people with built engines and 800hp and stuff like that. Way overkill for normal street daily driver, even with headers, exhaust, spacers and a tune....still would be overkill.

1. Transaxle seals? No, but I did anyways since it was off.
2. Yes. Best to just drain fluid and replace. Less mess...
3. Yes. Maxspeed springs w/front cut 1/2 coil.

THanks man.

I need to replace my pass. LCA and stab. link under warranty thru FCPimport, so likely order/replace the axles at the same time.
They're Leaking a bit of grease from all the boots, so it'll be sooner rather than later.

I'll post-up how they work. Thanks again for the great info.

I know its a little lame to be thread jacking somewhat, but does anybody have some links for the OP/DSS axles for an 01 Auto?

Do axles for 5.5 gens fit on 5 gens?

Thanks.

HERE IS A LINK TO A CURRENT EBAY ad : http://www.ebay.com/itm/2002-2003-Ni...172e66&vxp=mtr

i wish i could post some pics here. i took pics of the old axle...and the box the new one came in with the part number...in case someone had some question..

Gonna bump this:

I still haven't replaced my axles.
Hasn't been in the budget -- but nothing has gotten bad enuff to worry yet.

Anybody else notice that DSS is conspicuously absent from FCP's website now??

Only offering is from EMPI. Anybody know anything about this brand??

I thought i had a good solution, now they've changed brand availability.

just looking for peeps' experience with this brand.

I did too, no damper on mine, no vibration felt at any height I drove the vehicle at.

Mine is a GSP axle.

Know off hand how much they would go for ?
If the price I'd lower than 500$ it might be a considerable option.

You should not have installed that axle if it was longer, it was probly an A/T axle. Go back and make sure they gave you the right axle.
