Another 5.5 Bites the dust =[

I bought this 02 6spd in july/august, had some fun, ordered cattman headers, and installed nwp spacers, bop, and torque link.

Yay 3rd gear grind!

Order sentra specv trans, stg4 clutch, fidanza flywheel, shooting for 12's

how it looked last week.

I put my new pioneer radio in, started looking into turbos.. then..

wheel got pushed back =[

and what i hit:

a 2012 Avis Rental Altima..

I was heading east down I55 in the right lane, where this '12 altima in the middle lane decides "oh hey theres my exit! i'm going to cut over and slam on my brakes!" he does so, doesn't see me, and i smash into his rear quarter. his car drove, mine obviously didn't. Insurance is going to take a look at the car on tuesday to tell me if its totaled and talk $.

I honestly want to keep it, i'm pretty well doing work on my own, and i still owe like 5500 on the car. Do you guys think it's totaled?\

Any1 parting out a grey lustre 5.5?

are the 3.0 and 3.5 fenders and hoods the same?

Thanks guys and let's see what happens..

Sucks bro, you made it seem like your whole front was gone when you told me yesterday. I don't think they'll total that, the 5.5 is still worth a pretty penny.

The fenders and hood are the same but the headlights and bumper are not, but you already know that.

Just from looking at outside damage and the wheel being out of whack, I'd say it probably won't be totaled. Lower control arm, new strut, maybe a tie rod. Difficult to say until you get in there and take a good look. Other than that, it's just a hood, bumper cover, fender and headlight.

Since it was a rental car, hopefully Avis will be more than willing to cooperate to get your car fixed.

Chris, I still have those kyb struts if you need a strut which may be the case. I'll give em to you dirt cheap, they are just collecting dust.

It looks worse than it really is, mostly cosmetic damage ... the big question is did you air bag/bags deploy if they did it will get written off (air bags are way to expensive to replace).

This was my fender bender a year ago:

Total for the repairs was 5,200.00 ( used a front end 03 donor car for the repairs) .. no air bag deployment (got lucky) and I was at 205,000km on the clock and the insurance fixed her right back up.

I told the repair shop that was preparing the quote to be sure to use USED parts as full brand new replacement would be out of the question.

Dude... what did you plow into? I've never seen a hood fold up quite like that before.

Kinda looked like my 03 but had messed up suspension, radiator support and headlight and some other ****, if they replace all the parts with OEM NISSAN parts the dollars rack up very quick...GL...

^^ a small two door older Saturn that was at a dead stop, hit him at about 40 kmph square on and lifted him straight up, good thing for me as I am lowered my front sensors didn't go off as I was standing on my brakes and dipped even further down

Sorry OP I didn't mean to steal some of your attention ... really was wanting to show you that it is repairable if your willing to go with some used parts as the replacements

OP, it looks worse than what it probably is. I don't think they'll total it out. Keep us updated on whether they do or don't.

my honest goal/hopes right now is that they do total it, and i buy it back and hopefully get enough to pay the loan off lol. If i can manage to pay the loan off and keep maybe an extra couple hundred for suspension i'll be golden and hopefully there will be a cammed or boosted 5.5 running around =]

i went to go take a look at it at the body shop again tonight (i can't help it!) i know I can fix it, but now its just whether I'll get the most $ out of it. I plan on doing most of the suspension work myself as well to keep some $ in my pocket lol. I'll kepe you guys posted!

I knew the headlights and bumper werent, wasn't sure about the fender hood, just so happens there's a local yard selling a 2000 dark grey hood and fender for cheap =]

edit:
airbags didn't go off, but the car does have 135k mi and isn't driveable and also didn't hold a charge for even 3minutes =[

Sounds like you must be up in Chicago? Not too far from you.

Sorry to hear about your wreck. Hopefully like another poster mentioned, its a company with potentially deeper pockets that will get you taken care of.

Damn...same thing happened to me. Lady in a Ford Explorer switches lanes infront of me and slams on the brakes.

My airbags deploy and car is totalled. Worst part of this is her damn truck has barely any damage!!!

i probably wouldn't sell the shell since a lil bit of me either wants to rebuild it, or get a mazdaspeed6.

Yup, born and raised chicago!

the car isn't drivable, the wheel is almost into the floorboard/frame and the battery died within minutes so i'm not sure why the battery died. The body shop will give me an estimate tomorrow and insurance will see it tues/weds. for now, i'm rocking a 2011 rental impala or the family's spare 90 honda civic. as you all can imagine, i'm missing the maxima like hell!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE! hope everyone has a good year and completes all their projects =]

I don't know I would necessarily use the word "lucky" if that happened and your air bags didn't deploy...

Almost exact same thing happened to me in my gray lustre '03...same point of impact but I was pushed into the guard rail causing damage to the right side too.

sorry for the late response! It was indeed the other drivers fault, state police gave him a ticket for "illegal lane usage"

insurance gave me 4500, which is surprising considering i bought the car for about 5900. he claimed the car was worth around 8k so that's why it wasn't totaled. I towed the car back to my house to do the work myself (and add a few extras here and there ) i'll be making a build thread somewhere here since i'm continuing with my plans, but now a lot faster! i'm picking up a bunch of parts this sunday from Rood so expect a build thread shortly! here's some pics:
this is the same night i got it back. got everything off within 2hrs lol

its current state, until i pick up all my goodies!
