Big Brake Kit Conversion Bracket

Due to a fellow member request of providing the 5th gen maximas with a Big Brake upgrade using the 300z calipers I was able to design the bracket needed for this conversion. I felt that it was needed to post a feeler thread on the intrest of this bracket before sending the drawings out for production.

The bracket is key to this upgrade. It will be made from 6061 - T6 aluminum with stainless steel hardware. I believe that you can buy a bbk for $800.00 but if you were to put together the kit by sourcing all the parts you will spend much much less. The bracket is made to use the 6th gen 12.6 rotors.

At this time i feel comfortable saying that the brackets price should fall into the $120.00 - $140.00 shipped price but could may be cheaper as well. Once again this all falls into production and shipping cost

Please feel free to post comments

Thanks

Cory

subscribed. My 4th gen has the cobra rotors with 300Z calipers those things bite. Looking to do the same on my 5.5gen. So if this is a reality i would be interested. would have to wait till its time to change brakes.

The brackets can be produced with ease. Hopefully more will chime in.

I've been wanting to do this upgrade, so I'd be really interested in this if you were able to get the brackets made

Good idea Cory.
I'd be in if I wasn't already knee deep in a different route.

Btw. For a 13" cobra rotor, wouldn't you just need to extend the caliper mounting holes 0.4" out?

Of course the cobra rotors still need the centering ring...but the bracket distance issue is solved.

Would these brackets work with the Evo brembo calipers? As shown in this thread: https://maxima.org/showthread.php?t=...ght=Evo+brembo

IMO the 13" rotor is not the correct diameter rotor for the 300zx caliper. The issue of the pad not making full contact on the face of the rotor arrises. Not a big deal to some but that is one of the reasons I ditched the 300zx calipers.

And no these brackets will not work with Brembo calipers to the individual that asked.

^^ You're right...the 300zx calipers really only work with the stock 300zx rotors. Even the 12.6" rotors have a tiny bit of overlap.

It matters to some, doesn't matter to others.

i thought that if you used the calipers matched with the 04+ 12.6 max rotors that they were of correct fitment.

I don't know where I read it...I tried searching. But I have a set of pads from a used set I bought showing a mm +/- of pad not being used. Definitely on a 12.58" rotor...and with a Matt Blehm bracket.

It doesn't matter, the effect on the pad has nothing to do with the performance of the setup. Just something I noticed.

hey guys. i did my own research as well and i came up with other options too. as i read in a different forum. it is said that we could use a 05 caliper and bracket on the 03 max and not having to change the factory tire if people is having that problem. i even went on the site of Matt Blehm for that matter. it even quote that u shouldnt use the factory tire if ur upgrading only for 00 and 01 max are ok. the 03s have to get a bigger tire. im still on my way to try the 05 caliper but if people could help me shine some light on that as well. thanks

I'm interested more in the 300zx caliper, they are 4 piston and they bite. I have them on my 4th gen with cobra rotors and believe that thing stops! I need something for my 5.5gen.

yeah buying the Evo caliper is like 4times more. For example the 300zx caliper can be had for $220 loaded with shims pads etc. The Evo brembo cheapest is around $300 with nothing plus needs a rebuild or $500 for a good condition one. Granted no conversion lines are needed but you can get 300zx conversion lines for $60. So total will be around $280 plus rotors. And the bracket is considerably higher. I am not trying to be cheap but I am also price conscious.

So who makes the brake hoses for this 300zx caliper to Max conversion? Are the 240sx adapter lines for the 300zx calipers the same?

Just curious but have you researched pricing on relocation brackets before? $200+ is more common for a set.

You need to check around the price is more then fair.but if you think thats its unfair just try to get a set of good calipers and see what their going to cost you.

i got the calipers and pads for for about 150, but i guess i got them at a good price, if you guys are saying there a fair price for the relocation brackets than ill believe you, also i havent really found any other company that makes the brackets...but i havent been putting much effort into the braking side of things lately.

Interested. I'm giving serious consideration to putting the 300Z calipers on my 5th gen. Still confused as to which rotors I would need to use, and which do and do not overlap or diminish contact.

IF cxp makes these brackets then it'll be a direct fit to the 12.6" rotor. IMO, 12.6 is the most optimal size for Maximas since the size is available, in large quantities (cheaper), for the 6th gen+.

I've seen that 300zx 4-piston caliper mounted on a 12.6" (6th G rotor) and I saw no overlap...you got pictures?

Spacers, longer lugs, and/or new wheels will be needed for this mod as well! Especially those running Oem wheels!

I was told fastbrakes.com would custom make me a set. I can only assume it will be over $750...Which is a bit crazy. It would look sick with my Bremo Evo brakes but spending $1400 on a front BBK on a maxima which doesn't see the track is hard to swallow...

I've seen 12.6" 2pc rotors around $400-500 for a front set.

linky?

My main concern is being able to replace the rotor when it warps/wears out. Buying a random set online that I can't get reliable replacement rotors for would be a problem...

$500 would be much easier to swallow.

It's all PM pricing I've gotten from researching on my350z.com...check the vendor classifieds and start PM'ing the vendors.

FYI...if asking for a quote you have to tell them it's for a 2006 base model. Same 320mm rotor.
