vias bop

I searched and read a few threads but couldnt find many answers. Why do I want the vias bop? Will it turn my check engine light on? Easy to install? I noticed nwp has a sell on them right now and would like to get it for aesthetics if nothing else.

Did you check NWP's website for the answers you're looking for? Doesn't seem that way, but I won't flame you like the "others" would, or will...

NWP's block plate for the 3.5 gives you more power in the higher rpm range.

Why do you want the block plate?
1. Aesthetics.
2. Increased upper rpm horsepower. IIRC moves about 6 hp from lower to upper band.
3. Smooths power curve.
4. Enhances further intake and exhaust mods.
5. You become part of the exclusive BOP brotherhood.

If you want to feel like you are part of a group then check your local forums and go to some Maxima/Nissan Meetups. I've met lots of cool people like that. It's alot of fun getting together with people that have the same car that you have. Going to meets will also give you a chance to talk to people in person that are local about the mods they did and the power they have from those mods. Most guys are cool and will give you rides in their cars if you ask so you can see how they feel. It's really fun getting a ride in a turbo or supercharged Nissan if you have someone at the meet that is FI. Also you can get their experiences and tips on certain things.

Now as far as the BOP goes. I know there was a dyno floating around somewhere here showing the gains of the BOP. I know when I installed mine I noticed more top end increase and a small low end decrease (not enough to make car slow, but noticable). In my opinion the amount that you get up is worth the small loss on the low end, but if you get the NWP spacers (5 piece kit) then you'll actually gain more low and mid range than you had before adding the BOP.

If you want it just because it looks cool then you should order that polished shiny BOP with the raised NWP logo on it.

Nah, that's just your average stainless steel spoon. Nothing fancy.

The VIAS Block Plate Kit is for those that want to remove their VIAS actuator (Variable Induction Air Control System). That will hurt low end power, but since you are removing an obstruction, it will help top end. You will gain approximately 5-8hp on midrange and top end power and your car will accelerate faster from 0-60mph and in the 1/4 mile.

If you follow the installation instructions that are included with every kit, you will not get a Check Engine Light. The entire install should take less than 30 minutes and it can easily be installed by anybody with basic hand tools.

Here is a link to both our Premium and Basic VIAS Block Plate Kits: http://www.nwpengineering.com/Phenol...cers.html#VIAS

If you like to keep a clean looking engine bay, you will want the Premium Kit with the raised NWP logo. If you are a budget drag racer, then the Basic Kit will be for you.

Please let me know if you have any more questions.

Ahh the baby picture again lol..

And for the OP, I have the BOP installed and noticed the same differences as the others, increase power in high rpm decrease in low. Also, the instructions that comes with the NWP plate are very detailed and easy to follow. Easy to install and looks great under the hood.

Yes, that is the thing I like about NWP. When you get things from him they are labelled, bagged, and have detailed instructions (especially the NWP spacer kits). Very professional. Some companies you order crap from dont have bolts, vague instructions and they assume you know what to do and which part goes where. Very unprofessional!!

So I just got my BOP yesterday and was trying to install it today.. Well as easy as this install seems to be, I can't figure out how to release the clip at the bottom of the black box that hold wires. This is located directly below the VIAS. I unscrewed the one bolt but now there's a clip at the bottom of the box and I can't seem to release and I don't want to break it. I tried using a flat-head screwdriver like you do on other clips and I've tryied prying it from the bottom while wiggling the top. Any suggestions?

Here's a pic I found, it doesn't show the clip but shows the black box at the top left..

If I'm reading this right... do not remove the VIAS solenoid. You'll throw a check-engine code if you do.

You can remove the vacuum tank, and all the hoses, but leave the solenoid connected.
