Seatbelt locking?

Recently removed rear deck to fix the rattle, and the seat belt won't release any more. It coils up, but won't release it to give more slack. Is there a trick I'm missing?

Our cars, as well as most made after 2000, have a child safety thing built in. This means, if you pull out the seatbelt all the way to the stop slowly, then allow it to retract to the point you want, it will engage a 'no slack' type function, this allows you to safely strap in a car seat, etc.

If you've engaged this function, simply retract the seatbelt all the way again to release it to normal function. If you messed something up somehow, or have a faulty seatbelt, then I dunno, but hopefully knowingh this helps you.

Thanks for the input. I gave it a shot, and now it's all the way retracted and won't release, though.

I'll prolly end up taking it in to have someone else swap the audio components over (this started as a dynomat & replace Bose project) and see if they can toy with it.

Bump - anyone else have any other input on keeping/salvaging my unit?

From what I've read, it seems that seatbelts are either "working" or "replace it b/c there's no comin' back for it"

The seat belt must be bolted down to function properly.
