Gear Jerk..

Hey everyone,

Before I bring my car to Nissan, I just wanted to get some opinions on my issue. I have searched and searched yet came up with nothing. My issue is when I put my car into reverse, regardless of it being cold or warmed up, there is a jerk felt when the gear is engaged. If I got from park to drive it is much smoother, hardly feel it. It is only when going into reverse. Any idea as to what the cause can be? Trans mount?

Thanks

AJ

Check trans mount and other engine mounts (front and back)...check fluid level

Do you have a FSTB? Could be that reverse shifts/jerks the engine in the opposite direction than when in a forward gear, therefore tapping/banging said FSTB.

If this is the case, you made need spacers for the strut bar, and/or torque mounts might be on their way out.

thanks for the reply! I had Nissan change the fluid last week because it was dark. I will get the mounts checked out to see if any of them might be the culprit. Thanks again.

As far as I know, I don't have a FSTB. I just purchased the car not too long ago and I haven't installed one nor do I know if the previous owner did.. How would I check it?

Thanks

Most likely the mounts. Mainly the two torque mounts under the engine.

It's obvious. Big thing from strut tower to strut tower, really obvious when opening the hood, some barely clear the intake manifold. From the sounds of it, you don't have one. But, I am also with the general consensus here that it is your torque mounts.

We're all still drawing fairly vague conclusions here but this might help:
