People with obx headers

What are you guys doing for the "Bee's in a can" sound ,and the banging under hard acceleration. It's really starting to annoy me.

I have OBX headers and don't have either of those problems, and I didn't have to do anything...

Its a rattling sound in between 21-2400 rpm. Also when i first start the car i hear it for a while. The banging happens when i loose traction. I think its hitting that cross bar, where the y pipe connects to the cat back.

I had that annoying a$$ issue, checked it out at a shop they said it was the y pipe. Turned out to be total Bull, it was actually a loose O2 sensor not screwed in properly. same issue around 2k,2,500 rpms i would hear it. Took it to another shop, put it on a lift and had it tighten and no more bees in a can lol

Seriously, I do not know what heat shield you guys are talking. Someone educate me please.

I like the "hitting the crossbar" theory. Check for play in the exhaust or any marks from banging.

No.

Sounds like the y pipe is hitting the crossmember. If you reused the stock exhaust hanger near the cat, then heatshields shouldn't to be your issue. Jack the car up and and see whats what.

The obx y pipe has no heat shield. I don't have the bees in can sound but do have the banging only under hard acceleration with no traction. I agree that it is hitting the subframe.

I was wondering how long it was going to take for somebody to put 2 and 2 together. Why are people showing pics of a stock y pipe when he said he had OBX headers?

As soon as the rain stops i'll get back under there.I was thinking about removing that cross bar. And as said above there's no heat shield.

Found the problem well sort of. three of my o2 sensors were lose is what was causing the horrible sound at start up. I also added an extra hanger to help with the banging under hard acceleration.

Seems like you found your problem, When i installed my obx i can feel the max vibrate through out the frame under hard acceleration, solution: i grinded off 1/4 off from the crossmemeber contacting with the flex. I also had that bees in a can ish like noise. solution: the obx had pushed my Megan back a little and having my the flanges vibrate against the heat shield so I swaped out the muffler hanger with a shorter one to pull it more to the opposite direction. Other than that im pleased with the sounds and proformance.

No all i have to do is solve the CEL for my secondaries . o2-simulators.com are on back orders. DAMIT! eating tons of gas at this kind of time $4.15 a gallon.

PUR bushings, ES bushings on the sub-frame and an ETL should stabilize the engine a bit better under hard acceleration.

vqryder, how are your secondaries set-up right now?
