Advancing Question

Hay all. I own a aus spec Nissan maxima-teana vq35. I been looking at advancing timing threads. My car is a 2005 model in Australia they say this is a 6th generation. From my research no more the 17 degrees timing. And a dealer can only do this so I talked to my Nissan dealer and they said NO. But I rather
Buy my own scanning tool anyways to check codes etc. So Wat scanning tool should I buy to do this and what price etc? Cheers Kurt.

As far as I know it has to be done with a Nissan scanner, unless there's another way that someone wants to chime in on.

Also, from research i've done in the past, it only adds a couple of horsepower at best.

Its done with a progran called Cipher from uprev. I paid about $200 for the program. You can advance timing to 17 degrees.

As far as power. You have to look at area under the curve. Before my advance I was at 259hp and 251 ft-lbs.....after the 17 degree advance I dynoed again....259hp and 255ft-lbs. Dont look like much, but if you go to dyno section and look at the dyno you will see torque increased all rpm range and hp came on earlier in all rpms....also smoothed out a little hump I had in the graph.....the way the car drove was a BIG difference....thing has tons of torque down low and takes off like a rocket after 4k rpms.......so it is REALLY worth doing!!!!

I noticed a difference right away in responsiveness too.

As mentioned above there are a couple ways to do it. I had mine done by Knight_yyz at one of the meets we had so I can't help you much. He did it without CONSULT II though.

I forget you 3.5 guys have E-throttle, so I can understand doing it for better throttle response.

A friend of mine that had a 5.5 Max did the timing advance, and he did like the added response. He did before and after dyno's, and it was inconclusive since the Florida heat is a horsepower killer, and it really didn't show up on a dyno. Those things do have a margin of error... sometimes in your favor, and sometimes not.

Personally, if I had a 5.5, I would do it solely for the purpose of added throttle response.

Comes with proprietary OBDII to USB cable. You use it with their software.
