Idle problem with burnt gas smell, need help!
Hey guys, I did some research on my car's problem but I'm still not sure what it is. The car is a 01 I30 with 53k miles, and a couple weeks ago it had a moment where the idle would jump from 1300-1700 and wouldn't idle normally. After reseting the ECU it went away.
So today, as I was driving, the car completely turned off, after that it would stall if I didn't give it gas when starting, so I left the car for 5 minutes and when I came back it started up just fine but the interior smelled like burnt gasoline (sort of like burnt clutch smell). The car would also not drop the idle any lower than 1000 rpms, even when the engine was warm. Anyways, I left the car and when I went back to check up on it at night, it smelled like burnt gas/clutch type of smell again, and it was only the interior that smelled, the engine bay didn't. I just decided to disconnect the battery because it felt like it got worse as I left it there.
Can anyone help me with this? I thought it might something ignition related but that wouldn't explain the burnt smell comming from only the interior..

If my prediction of doom and gloom is correct, parts must be replaced or repaired. The IACV gets replaced and you send the ECU out for repairs.
This is what may have happened inside the ECU. That could be what you spelled inside the car.

I think it did burn my ECU. Would you recommend a place where I can send it in for repairs or get a new one? Also how does the ECU get out of it's place? I just took the cover off and it smells pretty bad from there, the car was also not keeping idle when I started it.

I've never pulled my ECU out, so I can't help you there. But here is a link from a few days ago about getting one repaired.

In this thread is a link to another long, long thread about burning up ECUs.
