RIP Accord V6 :-(
Before:
After:
More pics HERE
Happened on I-270N last night at around 530p in rush hour traffic stop-n-go. Had to slow down pretty quick from about 30mph and stop but I left myself plenty of distance. But the retard Ford cargo van that hit me never even saw me until the last second. Too late :-( Then when he hit me I got sandwiched into another car. Lots of frame damage front and rear.
My car is all but totalled, and I'm okay except for a couple of bumps and bruises on my legs (from nailing the dash), and a sore lower back.
I'm still shook up and pretty sad, but otherwise okay.
Sorry for going OT, but I figured I'd post here since I know you guys best.

Ouch man!! Glad to hear you're okay. I always try to leave myself double breaking distance so I can watch those putzes behind me. Makes it harder to stop constantly checking the rear-view though.
Now it's time to get you in a max... KNEES BE DAMNED!!!

SteVTEC,
Glad you didn't get hurt Steve (but signs of internal injuries usually occur in 2 weeks), some people get internal back injury that bugged them for the rest of their life.
I would like to congratulate you! I know how badly you want a 02 Maxima and now you have a chance to get your Maxima! Now, you can drive fast even "FULLY LOADED". Perfect timing!
When I first saw the thread topic, then your name beside it, I was like, "yeah baby! This bastard is going to get his dream car!"

woah..... that sucks
Glad you are ok though... you fared a lot better than the car I bet, but that is good. So are they really going to total it? It doesnt look too good.... another local member also got rear-ended on Montrose Road just yesterday... That makes three of us within the past two or three months Gladly, mine was no where near as bad. Anyhow, if you are going to be looking for a new ride, lets go car shopping sometime
what rental did you get?

Nauman,
I'm not sure if they're going to total it, but there's a good bit of frame damage front and rear so it doesn't look too good.
I've got a rental Maliboo now
Whether they total it or not, I'm still going to get another car. I wouldn't trust this one to take me on 400 mile round trips every weekend anymore. Not after a hit like that no matter how good they fix it, if it isn't totalled.
So yeah, car shopping soon.

But as Telus.net said, be careful for the next weeks and visit a doctor if you feel bad. Happened to one of my friend years ago. At first, she was OK, but she had to stop working for 3 months after a while. Still has some minor problems today..
Hopefully, cars are better today for this kind of slam (and men's "frames" are stiffer" than women...) (no offense to any lady hearing this)

Yo Steve,
glad that you are okay, you should do go do more check up, after I had my 2 car accidents, I thought I was okay and didn't continue to see doctors, now my back & shoulder is hurting everyday, and I can't really sleep at night, so be sure you got everything check up, cuz the longer you wait, the worse it'll get.

if the cop didn't see it, he won't give out a ticket usually.... I was in the same type of wreck, but much slower speed, and the guy behind me smashed into me in the same way and drove me into the car in front. No tickets, just a police report.
Anyhow, Steve, the front damage kind of looks like what I had. I needed a new hood, grill, bumper, and new headlamps. The frame that the radiator is hooked up to was slightly bent, but they had no problem pulling that out. There was no other damage past the grill. But your rear looks really bad..... I wouldn't trust that either looks like both rear quarter panels are bent as well as part of the roof. BTW, what shop are you having this taken to? I recommend Zamoras auto body for an estimate on the damages... give me a call or drop me a line if you need more info.

Sorry to hear it Steve, join the club of us Washington metro area owners that have been hit. Some will say this is wrong but make em pay. Make sure you go to your doctor, HMO at least once, then call the main adjuster and explain your back has been sore and your car got totalled. Frame damage or not massive front and rear damage like that is very costly, not to mention the airbags, hopefully it will qualify as totalled. If you had tinted windows, after market stuff, etc.. the adjuster will throw in some cash also. Make them pay for pain in suffering, hurt back, sore back, pain of it all, rental car, shop visits, loss of work time, etc.... Play your cards right I can almost bet you could get about$2,500 pain and suffering. For an accident that bad they take that chance for you to sign away your rights to sue.
PS Make sure you are not injured before you sign.

Steve, I had a similar accident with my '00 Sebring Convertible. I was stopped for a redlight, and was rear-ended by a full-size Ford van (wierd, huh?). The guy pushed us into the car in front of us, and then she hit the car in front of her.
My Sebring looked like this after the accident -

(They're too large, won't post for some reason)
Anyhow, insurance was kind, and totalled the car out...I think yours looks like a harder hit, so its most likely a goner. Make sure you feel fine, and take a day or two off to relax. My fiancee' and I both walked out without a scratch, just sore backs for a day.
Good luck, and keep us posted!

Good thing you're okay, that looks pretty bad. It's nice to see that the car performed as designed though, it took a lot of the impact for you in the rear crumple zone. It's an opportunity, get what you really want. You only live once.

I was rear-ended pretty badly on the highway once but the damage was nothing like yours. Glad to hear you're ok and hopefully the doc won't find anything serious.
This reminds me of how much I hate driving:
1) on 270
2) in Maryland
3) in the DC area
4) anywhere there are morons on the road, which is mostly everywhere
Seriously, I prefer driving in Boston now (I'm a transplant). The drivers usually pay more attention to things around them.

Yeah, Maxima owners should stop talking smack about Accord!

Glad to see that you can walk away from it. Any encounter that you can walk away from is fabulous. Cars can ALWAYS be replaced.
In Ontario, rear ending some one usually always results in a charge of careless driving and 6 demerit points (out of 15) AND a hefty premium surcharge of 75% or more.
Hope everything settles well with your car and you.

When I was young I ran into some big Buick's back end cuz I was to run the yellow light and the guy in front didn't. Had 2500$ damage on my Celica, and $0 on the Buick. Fortunately the people didn't have any injury. They were in the sixties I think and whiplash would be awful.
Good and see a doctor to be sure. My friend had 15 accidents already and she said some injuries don't appear until later on. We had an accident Nov 23 and my friend's 2002 Malibu was totalled. He got a 92 Tercel, and pocketed the remaining $8000 and used that to pay bills. If you are in good shape then have fun and go buy something nice.

Dude, sorry to hear about you accident. Make sure you are ok. You need to get a lawyer and have him send you to a chiropractor. You may not feel anything right now but cam still be hurt. You are not going to get rich from this, but I tell you, but you need to do it for your health. I totalled my 2000 Accord Coupe this Summer, a drunk driver hit a truck, thereby propelling the truck head-on towards me. For the first three weeks or so, I was so concerned with negotiating a fair deal on my car, I neglected going to the DR. Anyway. At that point, my neck was really stiff. I visited with an attorney and he did wind up sending me to a chiropractor. The problem is, you do have to stick with the program. Do yourself a favor, follow my advice. Part of what also motivated me to visited the chiropracor was, talking to people that had auto accidents six, or seven moths b4 me, they told me that, much like me, they got so wound up in negotiating a settlement on their car that they never saw a DR. And six months later, they can't stand their pain. Guys, I apologize for the long thread, I do hope that he gets legal counseling and medical treatment. I also thought that you drove a coupe. PM me if you have any questions.
