0-60, 9.2 (ish) seconds? Something broken? **VIDEO**

Title pretty much says it all, My 0-60 (2000 Maxima SE 4AT <-- EWWW AT) is currently doing 0-60 in over 9 seconds. What the hell. That just seems WAY too slow. Traction Control off, tires hooked quite well etc etc. CEL is for the gas cap, So that's not the problem. Video below. NOTE: is it just me or does it seem to shift early for being WOT?

Seems pretty slow to me. Quite a lag around 2700 rpm there.
Whats your history of maintenance on the car?

What have you done to maintain the car? Is the car misfiring at idle? We really need more information so we can help you find out what's going on.

Right, Sorry people, 132,000 KM's on the car (around 80k miles) I have owned the car since about 90KM, before that a good friend and mechanic owned it so it's been VERY well taken care of. No idle at misfire**, Car's smooth as glass as far as i can tell. Shifts are slightly "jerky" i guess you could call it, nothing bad, just noticeable.

EDIT: Oh man, No misfire at idle** Woops.

Thanks. Have you taken it to a parts store and had them see if your car is throwing any codes? Have you looked at your spark plugs or your sparkplug wires lately? Anything in particular happen before this issue started? How long have you been dealing with this issue anyways?

I'm definetly going to get it re scanned, Because there is a chance it threw a code while the gas cap code is on. It seemed to pull MUCH stronger with alot less hesitation perhaps a month ago. That may just be my imagination however. No issues other than the not so smooth trans.

I thought the same thing about my car until I posted a video (much like yours) and was told it was fine. Actually I kinda combined the two videos and from the looks of it your 5.0 isnt much slower then my5.5. What elevation was your run done at?

And your trans seams to shift better then mine

haha, I was thinking the same thing when I read that.

Check the VIAS cap to see if it's broken. It's possible the Variable intake is not working properly if the cap inside has broken. This is a common problem with the VQ30DE-K. It's simple to fix with some J/B weld and can clear up power problems.

Check this link for info on how to inspect and fix the VIAS cap

Doesn't seem super slow for what it is, It is after all a 3.0 Auto. Even brand new I think that car would be only be doing 8.5 seconds to 60mph.

Do you run premium fuel? With an appropriate timing advance you could see a few 10ths improvement.

The usual maintenance items -

- Air Filter
- MAF
- Sparkplugs
- Ignition Coils

Really though that is about the slowest version of a Maxima of that Generation. I wouldn't sweat it.

I would say thats perfectly normal when you consider the age of the car, HP and torque deteriorate over time.

IIRC stock times are around 8 seconds for the auto to reach 60. A bunch of small factors could also tie in to this (air filter, type of fuel, ambient temp, elevation) but I really don't see this as being a concern.

Maybe not a good reference, but hope it helps. My recent track time, East TN, unsure of elevation at Bristol Motor Speedway.
R/T .269
1/8 9.817
MPH 76.14

1/4 15.169
MPH 91.46

I have mods, but had 3/4 tank of gas, I weigh 350, and was running 350 rims with summer street tires.

Just something to add, I think my trans is having some trouble (or perhaps the TCM?). I was merging onto the highway today, and punched it to get ahead of someone, and it was at roughly 2500 RPM's, and it did not down shift, it just built the revs. This is really odd AFAIK. I was completely WOT aswell. I could see it not down shifting at much higher revs, but 2500?

You can only get a used one or part one together yourself, Stillen doesnt make them anymore...

Best beat is here, or other Nissan Forums, or ebay, and Im sure they dont have them in stock, when you order from them they would just place the order through Stillen, but who knows might have one....

Just an update, I think i tracked it down to a bad O2 sensor. seems to be a half second- to a second quicker now.

I could be wrong, but that whole 'not downshifting' business when you put your foot hard down to get on the highway, could be something as simple as needing a transmission fluid flush and filter change.

I believe on the Maxima it's inside the pan. So I'd drain the fluid, then drop the fluid pan. Some of them are bolted in, and some of them have a sort of cartridge. (I think the Maxima's bolted, but I could be wrong). Install the new filter, make sure you use a new pan gasket, and then bolt it all back up, and see how she feels. Make sure to fill the fluid to the proper level as per the FSM. If it's overfilled or underfilled, you can get shifting problems.

Try i resistor in your knock sensor harness, my auto was laggy, i put a resistor in there and what a difference!
power was back! if it is the case that it was your k.s. i wouldnt leaving the resistor in there, just use it as a tester, k.s. dont always throw codes apparently.. mine didnt.

i cant remember but i think i used a 570k
good luck
