sunroof problem on 2k2

this has happened twice since I bought the car.
I tried to open my sunroof, after I push the switch all the way back, nothing happened, I tried several times and still nothing happened. I took it back to the dealer, and the service rep tried it several times and it finally opened, and he said "THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT", but he can't explain why its doing that. Anyways, the sunroof didn't have any problems until 2 days ago. With the same problem, I tried about 20 times before the sunroof decide to work again. Now what should I do? it working now, but sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. I think dealer will just tell me there is nothing wront with it??? HELP!!!!!!!!!!
does anybody have this problem on their 2k2 or any other year?

Have them replace the circuit board and sunroof motor. I had a sunroof problem on my 2K. It would open but I'd have to keep hitting the switch to get it to open and retract. The tilt button didn't work either.

I don't know how much help that is.

Find another dealer or keep bugging them about it. A new car shouldn't have any problems. Replacing the board and motor will be warranty work, so it shouldn't cost you a darn thing. Keep insisting that you are not happy with having to try 20 times to open the sunroof -- that just isn't right!

my tilt botton works though.
i'm just thinking what i should tell the dealer so that they'll replace it. cuz last i went in there with that problem, they told me there is NO PROBLEM, even though he had to tried several times before he can open the sunroof himself too.

thing is this...

your dealer can't replace it, unless he can see it's broken. the parts go back to Nissan.. if they think the part is fine, they will try to charge it back to the dealer. I mean, the dealer *wants* the billable hours, but not if he has to eat the whole thing. Your dealers hands are tied (kinda). Make your case with Nissan NA via the 800 number.

If it sticks open and it rains, tell them you will be expecting a full new interior. If you can persuade them, the dealer will be notified that the repair is approved via their service writer

I had this happen to me once. But not since. Maybe something will come out soon for a fix. Good luck.

i had a similar problem with my 2k2 GLE.
It is possible that power was interrupted when
you went to close the sunroof. There is also an auto reverse feature if some thing was detected
in the way when you went to close it. I waited
a minute or two and then tried it again when no more problems.

i had probs with mine too but it's from it not TOTALLY closing. you have to wait to turn the car off or anything until it's tTOTALLY closed and then wait a sec. if it doesn't work fiddle with the tilt button up and down and then back and forth with the slider it will work.

It happened to me once when I first got the car. But I haven't had it happen since. But then again it is winter here in Toronto so no need to.

While we are on the Sunroof topic, when I go through a touchless carwash it leaks a little from the back. But only under the high pressure spray, you can actually see the sunroof flex.

Also when I don't have the cover closed (so I can see the stars)it gets drafty or should I say cold areas in the car. No biggie though...

From speculation: I've seen and used the slider in the 2K2, here my take. (I'm 90% sure this is what they did)

I think it is a potentiometer that provides a voltage feedback to a stepper motor. The voltage it feeds tell the sunroof where it should be based on the sliders position.

The potentiometer is just a variable resistor. It has a slider that runs over resistive material. Like anything else if you whip the slider back and forth you could shave the resistive material down causing the improper voltage to the stepper motor, hence the motors confusion, hence sunroof not doing what is expected.

Long story short, push for them to change the slider and things should be fine. What the Nissan guy told you is shear donkey poo.

Hope this helps

Happens often to us....just have to keep jacking with it, and eventually it wakes up and closes the roof....

My 2k max had the sunroof glitch also, the board went bad and the auto open/close feature would not work. Dealer replaced it.
