Power differences

Hay guys

Ive been doing some research comparing the American model and Australian model Maximas. The 5.5 gen vq35 maxima version has 190kw of power And 334nm of torque. 6 gen maxima has 198kw of power and 346nm of torque. Now what's the difference between these models to why the 6th gen has more power.? The Australian model maxima has 170kw of power and 333nm comparing that to the 5.5 gen maxima torque is the same but kw power is way up. Now the 6th gen maxima has neally 30kw of power over the aus spec. And a fair bit more torque. Now ive read wikipedia that the only difference in power was because Nissan set the maxima power to 170kw. But the same engine. So it seems that my Australian spec maxima is very undertunned. A tune for me would help alot.

Cheers kurt

I believe the most difference that you'll find is in the ECU tuning mate. I was always trying to sort out why my Z32 Twin Turbo here in the States was set from the factory with more hp and torque than my mate's back in Britain, and the only difference I could ever find was the difference in tuning from the factory.

It's probably not even the "tune" as we tend to use that word/term a bit too loosely around here, but more so the rating method.

Hmmm.. Interesting. Though, in this case, same engine, same manufacturer, same vehicle, but different countries, it would make more sense that the power difference (especially one as significant as the one in question) would be from more than just a different method of measurement though wouldn't it?

I would think that the ECU fuel map would have to be changed or power otherwise limited electronically (or, in some cases, mechanically) for there to be a drastic difference like that.

Our fuel maps have been screwed since jump street, as is our very conservative timing curve.

Again, I'm pretty sure you're over thinking it. Get a dyno to be sure.

The 6th gen also has difference intake and exhaust setup compare to the 5.5 gen, but for 10hp more at the motor might not be enough to make up the added weight of the car but i could be wrong.

Again... You're probably right. Things such as this often at times strike me as befuddling though. But, yes, I over think things on a regular basis... It keeps from going sane.
