Spirited driving: Which gear do you use?

Which gear do you guys use on the "Twisties"?

Took my Max for a spirited drive up some mountain roads today, good fun but the 4 AT seamed lost.

-"D" yielded constant 4-3 and 3-4 shifts along with the occasional mid corner 3-2 downshift (super annoying).
-Gear selector in "3" prevented the gear hunting but its gearing is too high to power out of corners.
-Gear selector in "2" gave better power exiting the corners but it keeps the revs up high and im worried its gonna overheat my transmission. Throttle response gets lumpy after a minute or so-- is this safe?

And yes I'm aware a 6MT swap would cure my woes.

EDIT: I realize driving involves using more then one gear, the question is more about the gear you find yourself using the most on a nice twisty road.

Lol Id say you used 1-4 rather well. I love how you grabbed first on that one corner(@about 1 minute in). I would have had to gun it to get my AT to kick down, which would result in some serious open diff wheel slip.

Love the way your car sounds btw.

My apologies sir, should have put "MT" instead of "6MT".

Probably depends on the track, which I guess following that same logic I guess my original question depends on the road.

But 2nd gear (in a 4AT) is usable from 15-75 mph which is about the range of speeds Id expect to see on public roads.

Well if your talking street driving, second, third and fourth in a 6mt are pretty fun, and could get you in some pretty good trouble too reverse can even be a fun gear(winter parking lots) haha

My trans also starts to feel sloppy if I start shifting it around alot -- 4 AT guys, does your trans maintain a solid feel if you force it to shift alot on a twisty road? Maybe I need a cooler/shift kit.

And you MT guys make me envious, wish I had the tools to do a swap. Labor aint cheap especially given I spent $1500 on a new valve body about a month ago.
