One thing I did discover is that it's hard to get that back bolt on the rear springs when you have large hands....and you gotta have a hell of a wobbly to get any torque on it because of the angle. That was by far the most difficult part of the job and it still only took a couple hours to do everything. Big advantage though is my friend Eddie owns a shop with lifts and air tools and everything you could possibly need. Definitely helps having the right tools for the job!
No lie. It all has to do with the thermal properties of the metal. Just like a microscopically thin transparent coating of Aluminum works as a thermal barrier on low-E glass. It reflects heat, but if it was thicker it would conduct it. Weird stuff to wrap your head around!
Soooo copper spray around my aruminum exhaust keeps moar heat in, kthxdone.
Done.
Bish you too slow.
And you sold it before I could gather the $$$, that's the main reason why you don't see me puttin around in your ride now.
Pimpin'........ It ain't easy
the y-pipe, cut out and 2.5" piping are still on it, oem axleback. the gunmetal G35s i repainted, CC stage 1 clutch, CC LWFW and the ralco sts.
i shouldnt have done all the maintenance on that car i did before i sold it, i never recouped that money

That's why I thought I was safe buying a car that's spend 90% of it's life in Houston, TX.... I was wrong... Spend 1.5years in it's original birth state of MN and my car is rusted to hell.
Didn't have trouble w/ those, Ratching wrenches manggggggggg.

And aluminum is a poor choice for exhaust, not just because of heat or whatevs, but it's highly prone to cracking, much harder to weld, crappy welds lead to cracking (and it's already prone to this ).
The only way to get it reliable is to use thick walled stuff, and then you negate weight savings and the price is ridiculous.
Overall, it's just a bad choice for exhaust.
And if I destroyed a rim sitting this low there'd be more damage to worry about than rims.
Definately not a nissan, Euro trash is my guess also.
They actually started putting halfway decent paint on them then. I would go with a 99+ Silverado with a Vortec 5300 engine. Pretty well-built truck and nice looking. Either that or a 03+ Dodge 1500 Hemi. Those things are damn near bulletproof.
And a Dodge? No. Bulletproof? No. Ever done a transmission or seen the rear panels when they rot out? Ever put fuel in one?
All in all, a truck is just not for me, they're ridiculous.
the only semi-truck interest for me is the new Ford 5.0, gets 22 mpg and is pretty balsy. but they're ugly, so meh.
I gave up trying to pick up 'chicks' in my car ages ago. I'll leave the 'ballin' & 'pimpin' to you youngsters.
Well I'm not buying a truck lol it was figurative anyways.

It sounds silly but Pezz is 100% correct, there's a lot more to think about other than wall thickness.

Either way, I'm going through with it, a lot of people talk down about it, very few have tried, and the few that have tried do like it, of course those guys own race-caws, but it's not like the red car will be doing 60k miles a year again.
I'll learn my lesson, just like w/ the CF hood, rather learn it the hard way, in the end I'll be wiser for having the knowledge of first hand experience, something completely different than reading something from a book or on a forum, quite a shocker how little you know when it comes to something even though you've read it a million times over, actually applying the knowledge is something else....

Not my style! I just want a better than stock DD, that makes me smile when I push down the go pedal & can carve a turn without feeling like it'll fall off the road.

When you do what I do big truck=useful machine. I tow a travel trailer, haul yards of gravel, haul my wife's antique stuff around, etc... I have a 91 F350 crew cab diesel. It's a big truck, but I'm not going to comment on "size" Let's just say satisfaction is not an issue for my women. I wouldn't own a truck with less than an 8' bed. They're useless...
I would respectfully have to disagree on the Dodge with you. The 5-speed auto behind a Hemi is a stout for getout transmission. I've know guys who tow regularly with them that were pushing over 150K miles on them with zero issues. As far as rear panels rotting out, we just don't have that issue in Oregon. Nothing rusts here. And pretty much any V8 besides that new 5.0 is going to get MAYBE 14 or 15 MPG on the highway. The Hemi in my Magnum got 25 though and I could tow 5000 pounds with it.

The single most important thing with an automatic transmission that gets worked hard is to keep the transmission fluid clean and cool. You will literally quadruple the life of the trans if you keep the fluid temps below 160 degrees. Towing heavy= Big aftgermarket trans cooler. I have dual 10K rated coolers on my E4OD and a mechanical trans temp gauge and she rarely breaks 150. It's the single best mod you can make to a working truck IMHO.
Wall thickness was not of my concern w/ the alum exhaust, I was just referencing SS not being as great as it is on paper because of how thin the walls are, I think my cattmans is on a 10sched and the OBXs are on a 5ched.
