2000 MAXIMA TRANSMISSION FLUID

I have a 2000 maxima with auto transmission and 180,000 miles I don't seem to have any problems just routine maintenance. I need to change fluid would it be better to just stay with regular and maybe add a conditioner like lucas or go with synthetic like royal purple???

What is the current condition of the fluid?

180,000 Miles without a change of ATF?! WOW!

Did you AT works well, any issue with it?

Usually I change the ATF every 50,000 Kilometers (around 31,000 Miles).

The ATF should be red or a little bit dark red, but if it's brown or black then you need to change it ASAP!

I'm using Castrol ATF (not synthetic) and it works very well.

We bought the car with about 130,000 miles my ex had it up until about 175,000 miles I don't think she had done a service just added added fluid, and it doesn't seem to leak. it's red and doesn't look or smell burnt it seems to perform just fine just want to do routine service. the mechanic at the dealership said with that many miles to just stay with regular trans. fluid I didn't know if it would be worth the extra dollars and go with synthetic. or just stay with regular maybe with a conditioner.

Suggestion is with that high miles, don't flush the transmission, don't add additives if transmission is working fine (usually not a good idea anyway), and probably stick to regular ATF. Probably worth a getting in a habit of doing a drain and fill yourself with regular oil changes to keep the fluid in the transmission fresh (and you really only changing out a few quarts at a time instead of all the fluid).
