First Mod!

I was curious today so i took my laptop outside & hooked my Up/Rev Cipher software to the MAX today & did a 2* Ign. Timing Advance. I've never tried using it on another Nissan with an OBDII port until now & it worked great! I was also able to check the code that its been throwing. We're getting the p0420 cat code & i'm pretty positive that its one of the o2 sensors that went bad.

Nice. Just be sure you only use premium gas if you're gonna have your timing advanced. Wish I had Cipher or could meet up with someone who has it to get mine advanced lol. I'd pay to meet for it.

Anyways, if you're positive that the p0420 is a bad O2, then go for it, but usually it turns out to be bad cats in these 5.5 gen maximas. If you're looking at modding anyway, you might want to get some headers or just gut your cats.

I agree, possible bad cat.

And DAMN I wish my Cipher worked with my Pathfinder.

For the 5.6L Pathfinder it is very limited, and can only monitor certain items, and perform some BCM functions, but no timing advance or any of that shnazzy stuff.

Also, this is good info, since I'm not sure about the rest of you guys, but I was unaware it (UpRev/Cipher) was able to function with the 00-01 Max, as most of us only thought it was possible with the 02-03.

Ciphers are fairly affordable theses days IMO. 200$ IIRC.

didn't realize he had a 5th gen. I suppose a y-pipe takes care of the cats for you in that case.

Yup, didn't snap to that either. 420 IIRC is the rear bank, so, that should take care of it (y-pipe)
