Problem with car starting

So I have a 2001 Nissan Maxima I tried starting it the other day and it just made a humming noise. So I thought it was a starter so i changed it and now its just making a spinning noise. So i think the starter is not engaging with flywheel but I don't know a lot about cars. Any feed back is appreciated.
